I hope East wins it all but, but, East is a team that is rarely a top 3 team in your class(1aa). Murphy, Robbinsville, and Mitchell are always a top 3 team in their class(1a). I'm just messing with all u guys ,I've had a son on 2015 east team and now have another kid on offensive line at east ,I know and they know ,they can get that *** beat at any time ,u gotta bring it every game .All respect to Murphy ,Swain ,Mount Airy ,Mitchell ,Tarboro,those teams are no doubt the teams to beat ,we know until u have that resume ,you can't talk it up ,I think this is East one time chance for a title . So honestly all respect to you guys and your schools ,hope all our kids stay healthy and make it a fun year !

Is that the same 2015 East Surry team that got thumped in the first round by a #15 seed Avery? Slow ****** mountain team Avery?

At this point, I would switch Murphy and Mitchell and it would look about right for now. I thought we were a little better than we showed Friday night. Not too concerned right now, still early. Anderson's stat line looks ok, but not as dominant as last year. I don't think it is his fault, we have to cut down our substitution rotation. He needs to be comfortable and familiar with who he is running behind. So far it has been different every few plays.

East Surry has a once in a century team for them and there is not anyone in the west who is going to touch them. It is easier for me to say this since we won't have to play them in 1A, but it is just true. I for one think they can play with Tarboro. Tarboro is very good, but it is still a different team than last season. Should everyone just hand it to them, well no, but we should at least acknowledge they are at the top of the heap for today. That win over Starmount was impressive.

Yes annoying I admit ,I got a little over excited at beginning of season ,and do apologize for that .I know this team probably will never ,well I mean will never accrue the history of Murphy ,Swain ,those teams ,but this is a special team ,and people feel they will contend this year with Tarboro ,I think their showing versus Starmount was impressive ,I knew for sure returning a lot of their team from last season that the Rams would have scored more ,but I think if East plays with Reidsville and make a great showing I feel they could take down Tarboro ,because the talk is Reidsville defense is mean ,this may be one of their better teams .Imthink East really wants to see where they are ,a few of the players went to watch Reidsville play this season ,so they are really wanting to see what level this team is .I don't know if they can beat them ,but I would not wager a lot on it .Knighty you are absolutely correct ,if East drops their guard thinking they are invincable they will get their *** beat .No one is laying down for anybody ,u gotta bring it ,I am one to brag on any team I see that is damn good ,and I'll tell you I saw some of the hardest hitting when Murphy beat East *** a couple years back ,and that team was solid ,Last years Tarboro team didn't look so flashy but flat out played together with no mistakes ,an awesome team ,but I will say I didn't like Boaz at qb for a while ,but I've never seen the pop he has and accuracy ,I think last season they had gosnell their go to at everything .This year they have at least 6 or 7 options offensively ,and these times people are throwing up m not sure of ,but I've seen at least 3 more players as fast as gosnell,the biggest surprise of that team is defensively they have defended the ends big time ,d is very fast on the ball,number 5 running back is a freshman ,he played last game some ,he will be special ,cuts better than Joey Ray at that age and is super fast ,this is their chance no doubt ,but they got to stay focused .

I know there is a lot of hoopla going on about this year's East Surry team. I watched on the internet with their game against Starmount and they have great team speed and size. However, I would argue that the 2001 East Surry team may have the slight edge on this team. I played for the 2001 Murphy team that year (which I believe is the best Murphy team to not win a state title) and their running back "Griggs" i believe is his name was no joke and their defense was top knotch. I believe one of the reasons we (Murphy) lost that game is the fact we were overlooking them to play Albemarle since Albemarle and TA McLendon would have been traveling to Murphy the following week. But I'm pretty sure that East Surry team was undefeated coming into our game and I would argue that team is better then this years. Curious to see everyone else's thoughts. Mbdfan your thoughts?

I’ve seen both teams and I think 2001 East Surry was impressive. They had the best defense I had seen around here until they met Albemarle. I don’t think any 1A team could have stopped that monster.

Hard to compare teams from different eras but '01 East Surry was definitely a strong team. The '01 East Surry team certainly had a better rushing attack lead by Griggs but this year's East Surry team has a much much more dynamic passing attack. Defensively the '01 East Surry team was stout and it appears this year's East Surry team is much improved defensively over their 2018 team. I think if '01 and '19 played it would be a good game.

As far as the '01 Murphy team, yes that's one of the better Murphy teams to not win a title, not sure I'd say the best because the '92, '94 and '10 teams all have really strong arguments. Now as good as the '01 team was they really could have been an all time Murphy team but they had some really really bad luck and circumstances. If starting skill players Zach Heltzel and Joey Allen didn't transfer to Woodstock GA and TC Roberson, if stud skill athletes Drew McKeon and Kagney Colbert played that year and if starting QB/S and Wofford commit Daniel Kent doesn't get hurt early in the season, you're talking about one of, if not the most talented Murphy team since the '80s. I'm pretty sure that team had a few more players hurt and another couple good football athletes not play on top of those I named. It's been a long time now so can't remember all the details clearly anymore. I just know they had an ungodly amount of attrition and bad circumstances that undermined them.

So yeah, no disrespect to that '01 East Surry team but they would've gotten smoked with the kids I mentioned on the team and a healthy Kent. I remember that game and even without those people and Kent hurt (which forced Western Carolina commit JC Brown to play QB most of the season and as a result partially neutered the offense by having the two best skill players on the team out of position) I still felt like Murphy was the better team, they just couldn't cash in their opportunities in that game. For me the '01 and to lesser degree the '14 Murphy team, will always be the big "what if" teams at Murphy.
