Finally a game worth posting a thread about in a while. North and Tville fans usually get along pretty well. Tville has dominated the series but North has won the last few times.

I believe North will score points but can they stop the Tville speed? Should be interesting with a pretty good crowd at Cushwa. I miss the Cushwa Dogs!

This one has huge playoff implications. Looking forward to this one. Both teams 3-3 and in the hunt for playoffs and other than OG the schedule lightens for the Dogs. ND still has dates with Salisbury and Ledford. Both need this win bad to be top four in conference.

I’ll be in Midway for the OGHS/Salisbury game... but I’ll have an eye towards Cushwa. That game is intriguing!

ND is averaging 31.7 ppg and giving up 22 ppg against an average schedule (3 good teams and 3 bad).

Tville is averaging 21 ppg and giving up 20.3 ppg against an average schedule (2 good, 1 average and 3 bad)

If Thomasville can execute and use their speed it could be a long night for North. On the other hand if Tville can't stop Norths offense they may find it hard to outscore the Knights.

Should be interesting. Good luck Dogs, hope your team is injury free and would love to meet some of ya if I end up going to Cushwa. Still debating on this game or OG vs Salisbury lol.

We can compete offensively and defensively...but it's the special teams that I'm worried about,it's a MAJOR problem that don't seem like it's getting any better and with these last several games being very important it's gonna kill us,I cringe every time we line up in punt formation...I think it will be a high scoring game, with north coming back to the pack somewhat it should be a better game than the last several years

Your not the only one that cringes, I wish they would stick with a quick kick from the QB. On returns they need to quit fair catching the ball so much and start letting those guys catch it and make plays, especially #5.

Why not let the punter take the quick snap and punt it?? He is a soccer player and those guys know how to get the ball off quick with still a lot of power

That would work also. Only reason I say QB is if it is a bad snap or busted play then they have the option of him running or throwing the ball.

I think, if it’s the punter, everybody in the stadium knows what’s coming. If it’s the qb, you’re not so sure.

OC, I was at the MS game today, just curious why the sections on the visitor side was tarped? From where I was, It didn’t appear to be any damage.

Just curious, not wanting to hi-jack thread.

There is structural damage in those sections. Eroding concrete. Can’t be repaired and they were tarped last year too. Ultimately, that side of the stadium will have to be torn out and probably replaced with the same type of metal bleachers as the home side. Even with reducing the visitors’ side by half, the estimate is $485,000.
The biggest problem is that the city owns the stadium and charges the school system very little for its use. By state law, the school system can’t spend funds on property it doesn’t own. Now that over half the city is in the county school district, how much money can the city justify spending on the stadium? Another example of the injustice the state legislature did to Thomasville in 1983 when they froze the school district lines. A problem without an easy solution.
Additionally, the city has other pressing recreational needs. Cushwa Stadium is simply no longer the priority that it once was compared to those.

What will it take to get the district lines unfroze? Lexington draws from the majority of the city limits why not Thomasville?

has anyone tried to fixit? City council?

The same thing that froze them in 1983.....a local legislative bill through the General Assembly. There is zero interest on the part of our legislators to pursue that. It would be political suicide. And yes, there have been conversations along those lines among several groups in Thomasville.
Lexington's district is actually all of their city limits and a little bit of area outside the city limits.
In 1983, some influential Thomasville citizens convinced the legislators at the time to freeze the lines. Ostensibly due to the loss of funding, but you'd have to be pretty naive to believe it wasn't mostly about race.

How would it work to expand the TCS lines to match the city limits when East Davidson High School is in the city limits?

I don’t understand the reasoning behind the 1983 movement? I don’t understand why they’d want to limit that.

As are other Davidson County schools. It’s really academic, but I guess in theory, if the decision were reversed, those schools would become part of TCS.

As to the motivation, E. Lawson Brown, Davidson County Schools superintendent at the time, became convinced that he was losing students and money whenever annexations were done. Some of the people doing the convincing had motives more concerned with integration than with money.

Ahhh.. so the contingent that lobbied for locking the districts were from the county... Not the city. Now, that makes sense.

So... how much money would Fairgrove, Pilot, Brown, and East Davidson be worth? You know, you can’t just take them. You’d have to purchase them. :)

I hear you. As I said, it’s all academic, ‘cause it ain’t gonna happen.
But for the sake of argument, one could opine that the students would all go to current Thomasville city schools and those buildings you mention would be empty....and worthless:)

Ahhh... Well played, sir.

But I guess they still would have some kids in them after I thought about it. Just not as many.

It would be interesting to know how many East Davidson kids actually live in the city limits. My guess is about half. Probably another hundred or so Ledford students who live in the city limits. I suspect THS would be one of the largest in the county. And much more diverse.

The fairer and more realistic option would be to merge and redistrict. But that won't happen either.

I didn’t even think about Ledford.

Yeah, it bugs me every time I see a county school bus ride right by the TCS admin building, by the high school and middle school and several more miles to Ledford.
Almost as bad as the kids on Leach Avenue who can step out their back door and be standing on the Thomasville Primary School grounds, but get bused to Fair Grove.

Old Thomasville Road has a huge neighborhood that attends East and another on Albertson that goes to Ledford, both are less than a mile to THS. Ballpark Road is loaded with kids and is half a mile from the school.

And another behind the elementary school that attend East. Kings Row near Baptist Children’s home needs to go to THS also.

Every morning First Student School buses come thru town picking up kids to take them to The Point Charter School in High Point and Leadership Academy Charter in Kernersville.

My nephews lived on Ballpark Rd and I always wondered why they weren't in Tvilles district. Currently they don't play football but they won quite a bit on the Hasty little league teams while playing TE and QB.

The 1983 legislation has had a huge negative impact on Thomasville City Schools in a myriad of ways.

Did you happen to notice how many kids Thomasville had dressed out? Likely less than twenty.

Right around 20. Lost one for the season with a broken arm and two moved to varsity fulltime in the last two weeks. Finished last season with 16-18 on JV.

When I attended the last jv game last season, they finished with 15 and no one who had played quarterback. Ran the wildcat every play. Sad.

I want us to win but I think Norths numbers will run us to death. North will pull away late in game.

I think the Dogs can pull off the upset if they stick to their game plan, run the ball and don't turn the ball over on offense. I wasn't real impressed with ND when I saw them play. They have a decent running game but not a lot of size on the OL. Their passing game can be slowed down if you double team #2 Dalton and don't get beat deep. If West can play ND to a 13 pt game, I think Tville can make it alot closer because they have better athletes than West. The key is being able to run the ball consistently against ND and keep the ball away from their offense.

Dalton is a good receiver. So is Mason Everhart, who comes back this week after sitting out for dumb decision making against East Davidson.

When money starts running tight, the State threatens to merge all school systems in each county.

Somehow it never happens.

Won’t happen in Davidson County any time soon. Two primary reasons.
It would be really hard to justify merging without redistricting given the extreme examples that have been documented here.
Thomasville and Lexington schools would lose $16 million in federal and city funding.

First impression. North dressing out 42, Thomasville 23 players. Regardless of anything else, that’s pretty tough to overcome.
