Right now they are only at 3 I think. That's 40% short of the number that was floated of 5. I don't think 2 short is a big deal but WR is a postion of need.
It is worrisome. But even more worrisome is that we will not, once again, use all of our scholies and undersign yet another class.Right now they are only at 3 I think. That's 40% short of the number that was floated of 5. I don't think 2 short is a big deal but WR is a postion of need.
I think 4 was the goal and 5 if we got a guy like Lewis. I wouldn't be surprised if we still went after a guy like James Robinson to try and get 4, but I don't see anyway we get 5 now.
Crap, I guess he did. I thought he said yesterday he would take it past signing day (of course I also thought Florida pilled his offer).James Robinson signed with Florida this afternoon.
Really? Who?I'm not tremendously worried about "under" signing. We may yet get a grad transfer or two.
That DT from Uconn is oneReally? Who?
You don't have to be smart to play football.I have a year left...but I AM 64 and incredibly slow....
That was just a rumor right? I didn't think there was any real substance to it. But hopefully you are correct. That DT from Uconn is one
Don't forget Coach Williams' son. I think we're going to be OK on the receiver front.
No clueThat was just a rumor right? I didn't think there was any real substance to it. But hopefully you are correct.
It didn't seem like an area of focus for the coaches this year, but the one position that was left out which could have used a real burner is linebacker. When you watch the top teams, they all have disruptive D linemen, but FAST linebackers to clean it up. I'm not sure we've had the real burner speed at linebacker for a while.
Overall, great job by the coaches.

Also after the DT from Texas Tech (transfer, not grad transfer). That DT from Uconn is one
As much as I would have liked NU to sign Jamire Calvin, I think of all the positions on the field, WR might be the easiest to fill. We've had a lot of success with walk-on wide receivers in the past. If the right guy is available then great. Otherwise, save the scholarship for either next year or a different position.
This is exactly correct. You don't find a lot of walk-on qbs or walk-on dlinemen. But the one place you can find them is wide-out. If you get good qb play, the wideouts will be just fine.I didn't want to point this out before LOIs were signed but it seems like WR is one position that has a ton of busts and a ton of "under the radar " guys. We've had a good deal of talented WRs who walked on in the past (as mpbrown stated). I expect a guy like Bryan Reimers to play a lot of football his next two seasons & he has the needed size that so many think we lack. Kind of reminds me of Todd Peterson a bit.
And before people start worrying about having to play a walk-on @ WR, remember that Hunter Renfrow is a walk-on @ Clemson. You know, the WR who torched that 5-star secondary of Bamas 2 years in a row.
Coming from a "run the ball guy" who was pissed every time a receiver supposedly commited.Right now they are only at 3 I think. That's 40% short of the number that was floated of 5. I don't think 2 short is a big deal but WR is a postion of need.

Anybody know where Derrion Grim ended up? Thought I remember seeing/reading he didn't get released from his scholarship with us. Makes ya wonder if there is any possibility of him coming back, or has that ship sailed? I would obviously guess there is very slim chance, if any, but thought I'd ask if anyone knows.
Pretty sure he's at Washington state. We released him from scholarship, no problem. We tried to talk him out of it but we released him.Anybody know where Derrion Grim ended up? Are you being sarcastic here?We will have at least 7 WR on scholarship. We will be fine.
We will have at least 7 WR on scholarship. We will be fine.
Remember, we got a walk-on wide receiver also. WITH SPEED.
So one injury and you're very likely playing all of them, three of which will be true freshmen, one of which is coming off an injury. I don't feel the need to say that injuries are also common in football...
I'd feel better if we still had Grimm or an additional receiver from the previous two classes.
Walk On Conor Young traveled to at least one game this year as well ahead of a scholarship WR. We're fine with the WRs we got. We've got some quality walk ons that are going to provide plenty of depth if not challenge for starting spots.Uhm so if you added another freshman WR or 2 how would that change the fact that an injury or two and you will be paying all of them? At that point you could have 5 true freshmen getting playing time.
There are 7 WR on scholarship plus the Reimers and Rahn who both saw playing time.
