Do you still think the NFL plays the Anthem to make money?

No, I think the NFL plays the NA solely out of it's sense of patriotism. No way they'd ever take a particular stance out of self-interest.

You never showed me your evidence for how they make money by playing the anthem. Or how WVU makes money by playing the anthem. Or how Bridgeport High School makes money by playing the anthem.

Why would you mention WVU and Bridgeport (two public institutions) in the same sentence with the NFL (a private business)?

They all play football and play the anthem. WVU and Bridgeport charge money to attend. They sell things during the game to make money. They may be public institutions, but they want to make money wherever possible. The public/private difference in relation to the anthem is non-existent.

What is your evidence as to how they all make money off the anthem. Stay with the NFL. How do they make money off the anthem?

OK you play editor Op2.

How would you word that "headline" calling attention to the fact that this chick found the attempted assassination or attempts of those being shot at avoiding getting killed "funny"?

Go ahead, write that headline so it's factually accurate.

Ill bet you she is related to American Fatbutt....that is typical of it's kind of trash.....cowards ...every one of them

It's stunning to me our friends on the Left somehow think this chick was justified in her "humorous" take on these events?

I'm damn near speechless not to mention pretty pissed off too.

I have to remind myself these are Mountaineers, but I'm not proud of them right now being on our team.

For the dozenth time, THE HEADLINE DOES NOT REFLECT WHAT'S IN THE ARTICLE. Thus, your question is based on a false premise.

If I was an editor I'd write a headline THAT REFLECTED WHAT WAS IN THE ARTICLE INSTEAD OF A HEADLINE REFLECTING WHAT IS NOT IN THE ARTICLE.

The story is not accurate compared to the actual quote.

Please show us where she was wrong. This guy voted against a bill that attempted to keep guns out of the hands of those with mental problems.

You should vote to keep the democratic party out of the hands of people with mental diseases.

You can see the humor or not see it but regardless the article makes clear what the generated the humor and it wasn't Scalise being shot.
There's no humor, the correct term would be irony, if there is any.

OK cool Op2!

So put on your "editor's" hat and write that headline to read what you think it should say to match what's in that article.

Never mind how asinine it is.(content of article) Just write the headline so it's accurate and you're happy with what it accurately describes that's in the piece.

Have at it.

Atl....let me take a stab at it for our friend.....let me know what you think:
Congressman Deserved to get Shot Because he Supports Gun Rights

I think he can live with that. In fact I think most Leftists actually do think that!

Well done bornaneer.

Now we get to read all the Leftist posts denying what you just captured is the real Truth in that story and what they actually believe!

My friend, are you trying too hard to show how contrary you can be today? It has been a historical part of public offerings too long to attempt toanalyze now. Or, do you disagree with that too?

Seriously now. She did not say the shooting was funny. She said the Republican reaction to the shooting was funny, as in strange. Poor choice of words on her part. Even realizing what she actually said, she still picked a poor topic to get into in this situation. But, in all fairness, in the article she did not say the shooting itself was funny. There is plenty to criticize in politics and journalism without needing to misstate what someone said. Unfounded sensationalism by either CNN or message board artists is not helpful to moving the country, or worthwhile discourse, forward.
Summary of what what you are saying--She is such an idiot and lacks the ability to craft a reasonable thought in the English languish that does not have within it so many ambiguities and confusing aspects that foils the ability of reasonable and intellectual folks to conclude what it is she might have intended to say. She should be replaced because she is incapable of performing the tasks associated with the role to which she is attached. What a dunce!

Yeah, wonder why we haven't seen anything about this tweet from a Republican.......

It's because most sane Republicans I would say think what he says here is disgusting and wrong.

I'll sure say it!

I'll also say it is disgusting to shut down free speech, or refuse to let folks express themselves even if you disagree with what they're saying.

A pox on both houses!

I just find it funny how many disgustful and tasteless responses that a few posters on here find that are Democrats, but they are pretty silent when it's on the other foot.

I'll call it out whenever I see it, whoever does it. What you posted that guy said is disgusting, and I find it hard to believe he'd actually be OK with doing what he suggests? (shooting people who try to block free speech)

Just because the Left attacks people over thoughts or words, doesn't mean we on the Right should join them.

I don't think they need any of our help being imbeciles.

Good grief.

Baloney. I have challenged liberal politicians and policies plenty of times on this board. I have probably engaged in more FAIR AND THOUGHTFUL criticism of liberals than you have. You engage in nonstop criticism of liberals but there is little substance or thought behind it. You are EXACTLY like the far left nuts that do nothing except blindly bash the right.[/QUOTE

Just to be clear, the headline is not what the article says.
The headline is appropriate to the article, IMO. The headline has "was funny" whereas the article and the chairwoman's social media has "so funny" if we're looking for technicalities to excuse politicians of heartless, brainless, abhorrent behavior.

The headline is appropriate now because they've changed it. The initial headline was like the title of this thread, namely it said the Nebraska official though Scalise being shot was funny, even though the article didn't say that.

Yeah, watching the Congressmen describe Scalise as he tried to drag himself from the infield to the outfield to avoid more shots is extremely funny. Even the Dems realized it was a huge mistake and insensitive in the extreme and toxic to the Dems, which is why they asked for her resignation.

“Watching the congressman crying on live tv abt the trauma they experienced. Y is this so funny tho?

You either knew the headline didn't reflect the article when you linked to it or else you posted an article that you hadn't read. Either way, you got caught and now are trying to change the subject. You're so anxious to post any damn thing that in any damn way can be used to promote a particular political view that you don't bother to closely examine the content.

You look like a jackass in this whole thread trying to argue semantics while providing tacit approval for a deplorable comment made by the Democratic representative.

I haven't provided tacit approval for anything in this thread other than accurate reporting. WVPATX didn't read the article he linked to (at best) or read the article but lied about it in his thread title (at worst) and all I did was point that out. And we've gone 100+ posts back and forth since then because he and others simply refuse to acknowledge that obvious fact. I haven't commented at all on the appropriateness of the response (the actual response, not what the thread title says she did) of the Nebraska Democratic lawmaker.

But here's the thing to remember for people that are so upset about the response of the Nebraska Democratic lawmaker. Why are you upset? Because you think it's wrong. Okay, so you don't like wrong things. Is it wrong to link to an article where your thread title completely misrepresents the content of the article? Yes. So if people are so concerned about wrong things why do they twist and turn so much to avoid addressing the wrong thing that started this thread?

And the answer of course as with so many people all across the political spectrum is that they don't actually care about right and wrong and instead care only about promoting their political POV.
