My guess is 2010
What about 2014 when Melvin Gordon ran for 10,000 yards? I think we were 8-1 at the time.

Edit: Looks like we were #11 when Gordon ran wild on us. We were #9 in 2011 when we lost at home to NW, last time in the Top 10. #5 When we lost to Texas at home in 2010, last time in Top 5. And the last time we were #1 was when we lost at OU in 2000.

Read that it was 2011, #9 going up against northwestern at home. Our time in the top 10 was short lived...

Whether or not any of us believes the team has earned a top 10 ranking does not matter. Whether the players believe they have earned a top 10 ranking (meaning they are one of the top 10 teams in the country) matters a lot.

There is a danger when players to begin to buy into the hype. If they buy into the hype, we will lose to Indiana. Heck, we may lose to them if we don't. I don't know if I'm explaining what I mean very well. Maybe someone better with words than me can explain. I played college football, and I remember being the team and also playing against the team that bought into their hype. Both of those teams got knocked back to reality in due time. It's hard to block it out sometimes. The psychological approach to the game will be a very important aspect to keep an eye on if we continue to win. The coaches that can get their players to play with something to prove rather than entitled will give their teams the best chance to keep winning. Look at Saban and what he did in week two or three. He doesn't let his players fall into the trap of "feeling the love". When players start to listen to those around them tell them how great they are, it's time to sell that stock.

There is not nearly as much separation between us and our next three opponents as the impression given by the AP or Coaches' Polls. We should expect a dogfight every weekend because we now have the target on our backs.

Sheesh. We're top 10 today. As fans, we get to (and should) celebrate. The coaches and players have to keep grinding, but they know that.

People talk way too much about "looking like a top 10 team". The results matter. If you go through the entire season undefeated, but struggle with some bad teams, are you not deserving of being ranked at the top? I would submit too that we've hardly looked bad against our opposition-of course we haven't looked great the entire game, but who has looked great the entire game?
AND of course if your Alabama or maybe SEC, you can lose one badly and maybe get in the playoffs. IMO,
Ohio State barely loses one, Alabama lost the previous year to OSU and had a poor loss - but doesn't have to play OSU in the playoffs; because they get jobbed to let Oklahoma in because of limiting it too a 4 team playoff. So the standard for Ala to make the playoffs is only one loss.

Yes, Alabama has a free pass to lose a game every year and they will continue to be invited into the playoffs. It sucks a bit, but since they've basically been a dynasty for the past years, it is what is is. If Nebraska had this kind of a run in the playoff years, we would also expect and receive the same treatment.

If they lose, and a panel full of college football experts still thinks they're one of the best 4 teams in the country, then they should be included in the playoff. The playoff is meant to include the four best teams in the country. I think the committee has done a pretty good job of that so far.

This isn't a big deal, but I saw something elsewhere that I found interesting. Sam McKewon, Nebraska's AP voter essentially cost us the #9 ranking. Tennessee beat us out for #9 by a mere 4 points. He has Tennessee ranked #8 and Nebraska #14, which accounts for more than the 4 point difference.

Michigan fan here. Congrats on being 5-0 when I heard B1G was adding Nebraska I was pumped. Love the tradition and wish we got to play you guys more often instead of Rutgers and Maryland. Hopefully we'all be seeing you in Conference Championship Game!

I think there are 6 elite teams and A&M ain't one of them.
I think this is pretty spot on! These 6 teams are the only teams I would say would win 6+ out of 10 against us. In another post someone said Do you think we could be Tennessee, Miami or Florida St. <<< Ummm seriously?

Tennessee - Has had to fight back in all 3 games of substance and lost one of them. Also struggled mightely against Appalachian State.

Florida State - THEY LOST A GAME 63-20!!! I don't even need to mention the other loss on their schedule.

Miami - They lost to that 4-2 Florida State team

There are 6 teams that would be favored against us at the current time...

Alabama
Ohio St.
Clemson
Louisville
Washington
Michigan

I don't see any other team in the country that would be favored by more than 3 points against us on a neutral site if the game were played tomorrow

EDIT: Also need to mention that I bring this up, because of all the belittling going on about our season...

Could a Tennessee, Florida State or Miami beat us... Yes, but to say they have had better seasons and would be favored against us is a f***ing joke. Nebraska has a lot to work on, but if Nebraska plays their best they can compete against anyone!
