I will feel the same way I felt after the temple game last season, which is not good. RU needs to show offensive competency this season, plain and simple. You’re not beating Maryland or Iowa with that type of output.
I agree to a degree. But what about first game jitters and ironing out wrinkles?

Last year was epically f'd up with Noah getting hurt before the season and then losing Gavin for a bunch of games.

Easy there. NW is a B1G team.

A B1G team that many people have said we should "hammer" and blow out.
So do those expectations get thrown out the window?

It's a little amusing. Usually the people complaining about "unreasonable expectations" are the first ones to offer overly positive expectations but then ignore them when they don't occur.
If we squeak out a low scoring bad offense win against NW, people will be quick to say "a win is a win in the B1G! stop hating after a win" despite the prior assurances the team is improved and will blow out a very bad NW team.

My expectations are high but I’m biased. Ultimately, a CONFERENCE win is a WIN. No need for style points.

typical first game of season for one team with a new coach, looked like last years team in the game but cant win even when close.
the other team lost its OC and apparently the new co OC's cant match the one they lost, let alone have someone fill the shoes of Ibrahim.

These O's aren't doing much this season. Losing a 4-year starting QB and AA running back (Minny) is NOT easy. Nebraska will be Nebraska...again...most likely.

That’s fair. Frankly, I’m in such a “show me” state with this program that I can’t help but extrapolate one bad result.

What you’re saying is exactly right if we are competing for a conference title. At this point, fans are the biggest battle the program can win, with a few talented players shining, playing an exciting and watch-worthy brand of offensive football, and showing the ability to deliver an upset win or two. For me personally, I’d be happy to see us consistently move the chains on offense. That would make the year for me.

Jeff Sims picked up right where he left off at Georgia Tech. Big play ability mixed with a penchant for turning it over too. 23 INTs over his time at Tech and another eight lost fumbles.

10-3 game with four minutes left until that point, great catch with bad coverage by Nebraska. And then Sims did what he does best.
Sims would not have gotten a look at RU, where the ball is the program.

Minny should have dominated Nebraska, right? Wasn't that the expectation? Nebraska was supposed to be crap, even though Rhule is there. First game errors to iron out for Minny, or is Nebraska better than people thought?
I think Nebraska will be much better. Would have expected Minny to roll them but they played really well, minus the turnovers. Rhule will have them competitive.

Any ugly win is 1000000% better than losing a great game

Not really for long term success.
This is literally the conversation after the Purdue win in 2017.

People repeatedly say "a win is a win. Doesnt matter how. Stop complaining!" and then are quiet when that same ugly game plan leads to many more losses.

It's the process - not the results.

Between him and the NC state kid (UVA transfer) I'm happy we didn't bring in either. Gavin's time to shine now
I didn’t watch the UConn game closely but Armstrong looked like he had decent numbers. 17/26 155yds passing 19 rushes for 96yds and 2 TDs.

Schiano thinks that game was way too wide open…
Nebraska dominated the line of scrimmage on D and still lost…due to a fumble (RB had it high but not tight) and an Int.

Every game plan is different, in theory, perhaps until the game plan is not working, and maybe the same old turtle goes back in their shell.

See Temple and BC just last year.
Apples and kumquats. BC was working through the warts of the starter going down 8-10 days before the season began and then inserting two QB who were not ready to be starters. Temple- Gavin got hurt, and that was that. And once Sam Brown went down, any hope for a semblance of an offense faded. Rutgersal fed those lines to me!

Nebraska won't be a world beater this year, but Rhule will build a winner like he did at Temple and Baylor.
It will take a few years and that's why he was given an 8 year contract.

Help me out with the reference. Not getting it.
Just an epic AFC playoff. Fouts and Air Coryell and the Chargers took a quick 24 to nil lead only to have Shula's fins storm back to tie. After a couple of missed field goals late Chargers finally won in overtime. Iconic video from the end game shows a couple of Chargers helping Kellen Winslow Snr. off the field due to heat exhaustion.

Sooooo, @cicero grimes thinks there will be less scoring than in the Chargers Miami playoff game from 1982. Got it. I feel like I gained some useless knowledge on NFL playoff history--thanks for clarifying!!!

Bummer that they're both not on Rutgers' schedule this season.
Except they both were last year, and both sucked, and Nebraska game Gleeson glued Same Brown to the bench in a pathetic 14-7 L and Minny shut us out 34-0

Here's a question for RU fans. How will you feel if the RU NW game goes similarl to this game and RU wins? Happy with the win? I will be, and the board meltdown will be epic.
Just win baby

Buuuuuuut. This game should not be close like that
