Need a favor. Can someone explain who Whit Waide is?

I somehow missed when this guy became a commonly known MSU person. Maybe I was on my lenton sabbatical from six pack at the time.

I can't figure out how any faculty member has any influence on the AD's office.

/not joking. I don't know why he is well known or the slightest bit important enough to be talked about so often.

He is a history professor who went to Millsaps and Ole Miss. My younger siblings have had him for classes and love him. I go back and forth. He is the main advocate of the "grindin' for our State" thing, after Anthony Dixon said it in an interview after the UK game his senior year. I like his message, but his Yosemite Sam bit is a little over the top.

He wrote an article for someone, Genespage or BDJ or some other site, all about how Mississippi State is the People's University and how we are all bookfarmers and whatnot. Some people ate it up. He spoke at The Drill this year, basically becoming a favorite professor for a lot of people because it is the cool thing to do. I am not sure his affilitaion with the AD goes beyond advocating the "grindin' for our State" thing. Stricklin did a little unveiling with him of the shirt with that slogan on it. I think he is more of a favorite of the SA president so he keeps coming up at every event the SA is involved with.

Here is a video of him at The Drill this year so you can get to know him and make your own decision on him.

This guy definitely seems to be laying it on thick and trying a little too hard. I'd much rather listen to Dr. William Eshee speak, he's the real mccoy and isn't just putting forward some act.

It's a bit strange that a faculty member is doing all that stuff.

He's a political science instructor, not a professor. For whatever that matters.<div>
</div><div>If you have a chance to take his American government class, do it. It's not difficult, but you'll learn something.</div>

He teaches a few very large classes on government and law that many of the Political Science and Business students take, so he interacts with a lot of students. On top of that he encouraged students to follow him on Twitter where he increased his reputation. He was an attorney in Jackson for 5 or 6 years before moving to Starkville.

He must have an easy class if the business students are taking him

Had him for a constitutional law class, he was a good instructor and gave very good real-world insight and engaged the students. He would always joke that he was a "fake professor" and would comment about how he always kind of wanted to be a professor. It looks like he's gained a reputation since then, and has really stepped in to the old southern professor role, I can say with certainty that his accent wasn't that thick or cartoonish when he taught my class.

whatever it is... the dude loves him some Em Ess You. Can't say I fault him for the "gimmicks".... he's just trying to build pride for the school and it's history/heritage.

But, yes, I don't remember him having AS thick of an accent. He was the faculty adviser for my fraternity a few years ago... not sure if he still is.
