So, I got talked into playing fantasy football by some friends/co-workers. The problem is that I've never played before and don't really follow the NFL so obviously I have no idea what I'm doing. Thankfully a few other guys are new to this, too.

The draft is tonight... We've got 10 guys in the league and the draft is 1-10 and then 10-1. I don't know where I'm drafting yet but anybody have any suggestions on what position to draft first? My instinct would be to take a QB first but apparently that's not the best strategy. I'm not necessarily looking for advice on specific players but I'd appreciate any suggestions on which positions to draft in which round - we're drafting 14 players total.

what is the dropoff from the player you may take to the player you can get at that position in the next round or even 3 rounds later.

That's why you usually don't go QB first unless its Brees or someone else that will put up ridiculous numbers.

Fantasy football is funny. Its the most renowned and loved. But its by far the worst fantasy sport of the big 3.

draft kit

you need to read this whole thing
draft day manifesto

and you have to know the rules.... scoring and roster spots

if you play 3 wr every week... you need a top wr in the first 2 rounds...
my thoughts on the year is rb is deep as hell... wr not so much

Print out ESPN's top 200

Draft a RB if in top 6 picks, otherwise best available. Always draft your Kicker last.

Mostfantasysports - if youhave a decent draft & work hard during the year, you'll be a top team in the leauge. Hard work &little luck will make you a top 2 or 3 team. With football,it's almost 100% pure luck. I've hada near perfect season only to getcrushed in the playoffs by some guy who hadn't checked his team in 8 weeks. And I've had terribleteams thatbarelymade the playoffs then caught fire & won the whole thing (see Drew Bennett going off late in 2004). You can work your butt off and have the worst team in the league,or you can luck up and drafta team thatneeds no work whatsoever.

Just enjoy the draft & ignoreall the fantasy football "experts". Other thanfavorable matchups to be aware of during the season &injury reports, there's not much else you can do.

Basketball is nothing more than a drafting contest. Lose one of your top 3-4 players to injury and you are all but done.

I ended up with the first overall pick, and since we start two QBs, I went ahead and drafted Drew Brees with the first pick just to wind up my friends who are all huge Saints fans and who all wanted to draft him.

Other than that, I used a cheat sheet I printed and just tried to take the best available RB or WR and saved my defense, kicker and TE picks until the later rounds.

I'm in it more for the smack talk than for any real chance of winning but as others have said, maybe I'll get lucky.
