A lot of hard hitting early. Neuqua just scored on a 3 yd TD. 7-0 2:05 left in 1st.
Wow West doing it through the air.
This is gonna be an intense 4th quarter!Raupaugh 51 yd TD run for Neuqua.
Whatta game!!
Didn't even know you had a kicker lolOh baby. When was the last time West won with a FG? 2012?
I thought your QB was the difference in the game. Kid is a player, for sure.A real classic. Hetlet has such balls. If West doesn't get that first down, NV needs 2 first downs in :40 to get in position for a 40-45 yard FG. What a play by Brady to step up, avoid the rush, and make that play. That kid has really developed throughout the year and is playing his best ball at the right time.

There would have been :40 and the ball was on the 39. NV throws four passes and #1 was running hot. With a stiff breeze they need to get to the West 35. So 26 yards in :40 would have been a 50/50 prop. If he punts, NV has to go 60.
I just think he didn't want to deal with OT again so played like he was behind, which makes it an easy decision. I don't think 10/10 do that. I think 5-7 out of 10 accept OT and punt.
But since will never give West credit for anything, I get why you would say that.
Pass interference on both O and D. How in the hell do you call that? Terrible call at this point in the game.
Replay 4th.
Great game plans, and outstanding execution by coaches and players, by both teams. NV is the real deal, no doubt about it. GW has come a long way since mid-season, with terrific improvement in execution on both sides of the ball. I thought Hetlet's decision making in the 4Q was outstanding, and, of course, the players did their part by executing plays. Just a great game by both teams. Next, another big challenge, but at home on a soon-to-be sloppy Duchon Field.A real classic. Hetlet has such balls. Im sure you consider a 52 yd field goal a no brainier in high school. Even with a stiff wind at your back 52 yds is tough at any level. In plus territory it's a go, not even a discussion for a coach that has a clue and I think your coach never even considered another approach. You also assume that GBW gains no yards on the play you're a real pip! Good luck next week.
Hetlet is an aggressive coach, so when he can be in control of his destiny and put the team in a position to win the game, he always does it. In a similar situation, the majority of HS coaches would punt the ball and take their chances in OT (think about it: you're 4th and 9 from the 39 yard line, but in about 40 seconds, you'll be 1st and 10 from the 10 with a great chance to score). You're right about it being a gutsy move, and it was also a smart move.A couple of things. If you saw the kickoffs and extra points, you know that NV kicker had a huge leg. He actually kicked a touchback into the wind in the first half. His extra points disappeared into the night like no other kicker we played this year. With a stiff breeze, that kid is likely money from 50.
Second, it was 4th and 9. Not sure what you mean by "you assume GW gains no yards." On 4th and 9 you are forced to throw downfield. A screen pass would not be an option because GW already had run that on a 3rd and 13 earlier and came up short due to the correctly predicted pursuit speed of NV. You were right about the sideline to sideline ability of Rhat the LB.
So that play has four likely outcomes. First, it could be a sack, which if Brady doesn't coyly step up, happens as pocket collapsed. Second, an incomplete pass. If so NV needs 25-30 yards in :40 seconds and a good kick which I put as 50/50 proposition. Third, NV gets interception. This one would likely help GW unless the interceptor is #1 which might have been returned to at least the line of scrimmage or maybe more. Fourth is the completion for the first down.
Now we get to the fun part. GW under Hetlet has not won a game on a game winning FG to my knowledge. In 2012, we beat WN 3-0 in the mud bowl but pretty sure the FG was first half. I won't put any of my impressions of GW as having any truth, but from the seats, it has seemed like Hetlet strongly dislikes the kicking game. Some, not me, have even accused him of not kicking enough FGs. Going back four weeks against HC, he chose to go for two in OT which I applauded but others cited as his history of disdain for the kicking game.
Finally, that stiff breeze. I'm not talking Friday night at Wrigley stiff wind, but it was 10-15 steady that had the flags pointing directly into GW's face on that drive. And granted that final FG was only 32 yards, but add it all up and most of us were betting that we would see a punt on 4th & 9.
I will be happy to let others chime in that we're at the game and saw what that NV kicker was doing all game. And someone who felt the wind and saw the direction. And someone who had the context of seeing Hetlet coach for many games. For those of us that were at the field, it was a ballsy call.
