You don't have to go to the #flagship to go to UMC...

Sure, HIV is kinda bad, but a Bear doctor? No thanks.

All rivalry aside, though, this is absolutely tremendous. Regardless of this doctor's allegiances.

Whoa--half the posts just disappeared. Good job whoever swung the hammer on that rank thread! And good work MISSISSIPPI doctor. This state has plenty of folks we can all be proud of.

It has nothing to do with Ole Miss and everything to do with Mississippi. It's an accomplishment that needs no school's name attached to it. Everyone should be proud.

Gonna have to differ with you there. Has everything to do with Ole Miss and all of the world should be proud. ESPECIALLY other mississippians like us msu fans.

My wife works at UMC and has nothing to do with Ole Miss. MSU grad and MSU fan and even though she works at UMC she doesn't consider herself affiliated with Ole Miss in any way.

This is great news but... How come this hasn't been tried before? Oh these drugs work great pre-birth but after youve been born "ah **** too late"? Nobody ever said "Hey let's see if these drugs work post birth?" Just curious. That's what I gained from the article I am no expert.

The article noted that it is very rare for a baby to be born HIV positive, because of prenatal antiviral meds. It also mentions that this case is unique because of the circumstances - that the mother had received no prenatal care at all and was only diagnosed HIV+ when she arrived at the hospital for the birth.

It was going to happen adventually.

Too much money being spent worldwide to find a cure or at lest find a vacine.

I know Mrs. Hannah Gay personally

She and her husband Paul are the finest people you will ever meet. They have a couple of sons in the military who are serving overseas. I think the boys may have gone to West Point, VMI, Citadel, or somewhere like that. Their daughter recently got married. The Gay family (Paul and Hannah) live in Ridgeland and one time served as missionaries overseas for a couple of years. You will not find better people if you looked the world over. I assure you that she is not your stereotypical doctor living in a mansion, going to Ole Miss ballgames, etc. They are salt of the earth people. Unless you know them, you could never understand. I have never in my life met two people who live a Christ-led life like Hannah and Paul Gay. Never.

UMMC is hardly 'Ole Miss' when it comes down to it. Yeah I know, same system, yada yada. But you don't see Colonel Rob handing out around the med center.

Dude....you are not even half way funny.

Side Note: My lady is a NICU nurse and this was actually one of her patients. She is very excited about all this.

She refused to take the prenatal meds. She received care and did not take the medicine.

That's not what was in the article...

"The girl's mother tested positive for HIV when she arrived at the hospital to give birth, Gay says. But the mother hadn't had any prenatal care, including anti-HIV therapy. The baby was born too quickly for doctors to begin any therapy before delivery, as well"

Maybe you know more about the situation than what was reported in the article.

ETA: I see now from reading your post below that you do know more. I was just going off what was in the article.

I find it odd that you implied that going to Ole Miss games is contradictory

to a "Christ-centered life." I know it's hard to believe judging from this board, but Ole Miss people are not the anti-Christ. I know it's astonishing, but my preacher (GASP) even goes to Ole Miss games.

BTW, Dr. Gay went to undergrad at Ole Miss too.

They have not spent the money on the common cold as they have HIV. They have always had a cure for the common cold. Stay in bed and eat warm soups. That's not going to work for HIV.

Cure has been known for some time as is for cancer....

But our FDA has repressed it continually, deeming both such treatments unsafe for use on humans.

They have a Chem Engineer in California with a 100% cure rate on all cancers, in human test subjects but because he hasn't run the tests on the some thousand patients for FDA approval (can't recall exact amount but its ridiculously high, given many people will not go through "experimental" "deemed unsafe" cancer treatment).

The meds and treatments are out there. They are just held back for ridiculous reasons.

I think he is saying they are not a stereotypical doctor regardless of school affiliation. Stop reaching.

And let me add - I have no idea what a stereotypical doctor is.

That is not even close to what I meant. I was speaking to the people who feel like applauding an accomplishment by someone employed by Ole Miss is somehow cheering for the enemy. These folks are not like XenaReb (Julie Gibert). They are not your stereotypical doctor living in Bridgewater, buying season tickets to their school of choice (MSU, Ole Miss, La Tech, whoever, etc). They honestly don't care who wins on Saturday. Rooting for her to cure something is not "rooting for the enemy" if you are an MSU fan. These folks are the best of the best. My son has spent the night at their house, and I've never known two finer people than Paul and Hannah Gay.

IMO_They do have cures for cancer...and you better believe they have a cure for HIV/AIDS since this was a man-made disease. There are several motives behind a disease like HIV....I am not here to debate it just state my beliefs.

i.e. Lyme Disease (its not anything like HIV but its man-made)

Like T-Bone said....Big Pharma...just one reason

Some of you conspiracy theorists are starting to sound perilously close to the lunatic fringe with this "man made disease" stuff. Besides, this was ONE patient--a single case report. Extremely low level evidence in the scientific community. Of course it's an exciting nidus to start from, but it's not near the point we can say that AIDS has been cured. I'm surprised at the media frenzy from such limited data. Must be the subject matter.

You can also trust the Government. They are looking out for our absolute well being.

You honestly think major pharmaceuticals would welcome a cure? Not saying there is one but you can bet your *** they would want to suppress it.
