Wow

I looked up Jerryworld and it was basically $1.5. $4 Billion is absolutely crazy to me. What do I know though?
Original estimates for Jerry world were under $900mil, but Jerry said, “nah, I want the first billion dollar stadium”

I've never noticed that the mall, Washington monument, and Lincoln memorial aren't aligned due west of the Capitol.

SoFi original estimate was $2B, ballooned up to $5.5B - but we are talking about California in that case, but DC might say "hold my beer" on the $4B estimate and wow us all again

They are. The RFK site is just not in line with them.
Opposite. Check the satellite view. The intent was for the Washington monument to align due West of Capitol and due South of the White House. The precise location was too swampy for the structure so it was placed in a more stable spot 1 degree south of due west from Capitol for more stable ground.

It's not obvious but once you see it you can't unsee it. The streets run east west. The mall doesn't.

I remember when everyone thought that Mercedes Benz in Atlanta costing about $1 billion was just crazy.

It's crazy that Jerryworld is starting to be an old stadium.

How in the holy hell has the Superdome stood this much of a test of time and still a premier venue for bowls and the NFL? It's insane to me. Is it just New Orleans? I guess it did he refurbished after Katrina.

They've done a pretty good job updating what's turned out to be a decent skeleton. (It got another renovation recently, and there's a big project in the works for the Superdome/Smoothie King Center.) Concourses are still too narrow, but it's OK. New Orleans is set up really well for hosting big events. Lots of hotel rooms nearby in an area set up for hospitality (restaurants, bars, other "entertainment"). Tom Benson barked for years wanting a new stadium, but the city/state has done a good job fending that off by just jamming money in the Benson Family coffers through advantageous deals.

Looks an awful lot like old RFK.
Yeah, it does. Does it have a roof? Hard to tell from the two pictures - one looks open, the other looks closed. I'd think it would be very hard to build a roof that would open and close, given the saddle configuration.

Is it worth all the money to move back inside the District? The stadium they have now in the suburbs seems perfectly adequate.

It was just a joke so hopefully this does not start a golfer and pain 5 page insult thread.

Went to the ULL game a few years ago and and I was impressed. First time I'd been since the early 80's. Hard to believe it was built in 71 and still doesn't look all that dated.

I think it is known as the worst stadium in the NFL

What's that part about building stadiums and keeping people entertained so they don't think about the ****** conditions. Groceries bills car payment and insurance high? Who cares. Here is a 4 billion dollar new stadium. Entertainment and sports money with crazy contracts and stadiums is past ridiculous now given the economy.

The city in which I grew up has been where the Bears were supposed to move to for a few years now.
The land the Bears purchased is a huge amount of land and could be developed into a cool district with some bars and shopping and whatnot, alongside the stadium.
But the traffic would have been insane. I guess not much worse than it is now, and a Metra line stops right where the stadium would be so that could help, but boy the vehicle traffic would be crazy.

Anyways, we drove past it a few weeks ago during a Christmas visit and talked about what a crazy shítshow the move has become.
- The city wants the Bears to pay an absurd amount of taxes, relative to how much other stadiums pay.
- The Bears want to pay an absurd amount of taxes, relative to what the developed property's value should cost.

Meanwhile, 325 acres of really awesome land, that is in an area not exactly known for undeveloped land, sits empty.
