Why would they get a standing O? They haven't done anything. This back-and-worth "will we leave or won't we" game is all about ego on the part of the Aggies. They hate that they have lost their "powerhouse" status the past decade or so -- at least in the SWC/Big 12. As one article stated, they almost have to leave now just to save face and avoid being a laughing stock. TAMU has been playing this "we aregoingto leave" game long before the talks of Big 12 dissolving last year. To hear an Aggie fan describe it, the SEC has "been begging TAMU to join for years." Yeah, I'm sure.

Well so much for TAMU being big news around here today. TAMU's own pride and joy,GovernorPerry, announcedhis Presidentialcandidacythis morning. Hardly a mention of the Aggies on statewide news outlets now.

but you don't understand the SEC. Wouldn't surprise me if we have been trying to entice aTm for years. This is a good pickup for the SEC. Huge TV markets, decent but not dominating team, good people. The SEC is a family and these folks seem to fit in. I'll welcome them to the SEC with a standing O before the game and then cheer as we wax that *** all over Scott Field.

Actually I understand completely. I don't think there is a conference alive that would not (for the most part) give a welcoming "standing O" to a new school. I just misunderstood what you would give them a "standing O" for -- like TAMU gave us the finger or something. I have no idea if TAMU has been being courted by the SEC or not, and honestly I don't care one way or another if they have been. It is just funny to hear them say it like it is a big threat or something. As for them being "good people" they are definitely better than UT, but they have their a-holes like every school does. TV markets -- the SEC already has a very strong hold in Texas -- especially with LSU -- but adding Texas A&M will add some depth to that. All of this is a given.

You need to read another post I just wrote about my thoughts on the SEC expansion. I said that I have always admired the SEC for honoring rivalries, history and tradition. I would actually hate to see the SEC "fix what ain't broke." The Big 12 is still relatively new when compared to other conferences so aside from a few specific rivalries, we do not have this great history. I wish we did. Clearly the schools in the Big 12 do NOT consider themselves a "family" in any way. Nebraska and Colorado already left, and Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State,Missouri, and Texas A&M have all threatened to leave at some time or another. That's why I have said along I would be happy if the conference dissolved. I would much prefer Texas Tech to be in a stable conference -- even if it is much smaller and lesser known -- with schools that respect each other and honor the commitment to one another. <div>

anything that helps screw UTexas I'm all for. I will thoroughly enjoy watching A&M (as an SEC team) wax Texas.

When was the last time the SEC added a big school to the league? aTm might not be a powerhouse, but they they are a monster of a school. Absolutely huge. Biggest campus in the nation by land mass, and a huge school by any other measure. Great engineering school. Presidential library on campus. There is a lot to like about aTm.<div>
</div><div>Face it, Arkansas and S Carolina were so-so adds. aTm brings something to the table. And I suspect there a lot of synergy in adding them. They make the SEC better and the SEC will make them better.</div><div>
