if it's going to start getting difficult for us to get power hitters because of Dudy Noble. Prospects are going to start thinking "I can go here, bat .300 with 5 HRs orI could goelsewhere and hit .350 with 15 HRs."

We need to do something if these bats are here to stay.

I think a kid who hits alot of 2b & 3b would love our field. A hard line drive in the gap is an extra base hit. With that I think slugging % and speed becomes very important. HR numbers are very deceiving. How big is his park? A HR with a kid only pitching in the low to mid 80's is a long out in D1.

of DNF, then Cohen can just move the fences in at some point.

I think its a philosophy thing with Cohen, which I don't completely agree with. The HR has more impact on the game now than it ever has and half of our games are away from DNF. Plus, we need some gap power regardless.

but DNF is a ball killer. The only reason we would move the fences in would be to sell tickets (which I think is well worth discussing).

would simply a single or a double have driven in what might have been the winning run?

and this is more about the short term than anything. If we're going to keep Demarcus Henderson in the outfield, we need another middle infielder because Frost, Britton, and Casey have all struggled at the plate, and Britton has stuggled at times defensively.

Look at his fielding percentage- .981. I think the hope is that he can come in and compete and play second base and give us an upgrade offensively and defensively for a couple of years. He plays second base, so this tells me that we're going to keep Frazier at SS for the next two years or so.

To me, this was more of a need than a power hitter. I expect Rea, Renfroe, Norris if he comes back, Porter, and maybe even Slauter to be improved as far as power goes next year. Rea, Renfroe, and Porter could all very easily hit 10 apiece next year. And we'll see if they decide to let Woodruff hit some next year as well.

As far as power hitters and John Cohen- I think that is the biggest misnomer about him out there. He didn't have a problem at Kentucky with them hitting home runs- and his teams there still got plunked, tried to get on base and bunted as much as anyone. And you look at our recruiting at MSU- Daniel Garner is a freshman that will be a power hitter, Rea, Reid Humphries, Nick Flair, Woodruff, Renfroe, Porter, and now we are getting Cort Brinson from Oak Grove to walk-on and is a guy that a lot of people think is the top power hitter in Mississippi.

Now, we're getting some contact hitters, like Detz, CT, Frazier, and etc. but that's not how we're building our team for the long term. Personally, I do suspect that the fences will come in. That's just my gut feeling- I haven't heard any rumors or anything like that.

Also, something else I like about this- he's from California. That's a state that we need to try to pull a recruit or two from a year. California is one of the top states as far as producing MLB talent- it's up there with Florida and Texas. And college baseball is not a big deal out west. Those are the kind of players that facilities and things like that have an impact on.

Slauter has hit the ball the deepest more consistently than anyone on the team. Just in the games I have seen, he has hit at least 6-8 balls to the warning track that would be HRs in most other parks. Bring in the fences 10', and he's got 12 HRs and would be hitting no worse than .260.

..that's why Cohen didn't have a problem at Kentucky with them hitting home runs.

Everytime we play at Kentucky, Jim Ellis keeps hoping we'll hit a can of corn, because there is a 75% chance it will go out of the parlk.

against them at home, and it's part of the reason we always do well against them at home. Most of those homeruns end up being cans of corn at Dudy.
