Now that I think about this they couldn't find room to build this on campus?

Still amazing but I'd like to understand the reasoning here.
I’m guessing this is not a facility being 100% funded by RU. Depending on other sources of funding and how much of the share is being taken, RU’s options on location may have been limited.

I suppose the next great announcement will be that they're building a basketball arena in Carteret or some ****.

Hey - we should move the football stadium to Delran!

Just pack it up and leave N.B. altogether, right?

If that's the case, then we should lay claim to the Cure Arena and start advertising B1G hockey season ticket packages. When life gives you lemons...

My immediate response. But knowing how Middlesex County politics work I’m not surprised.
Most folks don't understand how corrupt Middlesex County is (small step behind Hudson County). For every dumb decision, there is a "reason". For example, after expanding and rebuilding Route 18, why the hell is there still a light at Paulus instead of letting the traffic flow to Route 1? Because Middlesex County power broker and former State Senator John Lynch lived off Paulus and wanted to keep that light for his convenience.

Is that were all those unexploded WWI munitions were found?
I think there are more WWII munitions in that area, not WWI. The entire area from Woodbridge Ave back to the Raritan River was the Raritan Arsenal. Heller Park, Raritan Center, and where the apartment complexes are.

He is also the reason why there wasn’t a downtown multi purpose arena and why this stadium complex wasn’t built on campus in the 90’s.

Don't like at all....terrible. if there was ever a reason for even fewer students to attend, this is it. Will they have one 12 seat passenger van to take students to the game ? Sharing a field with MCC. Lame.
You're never. going to get students to a Rutgers baseball game. But you might get alumni and locals. I went to the Somerset Patriots on Saturday night and it was sold out. I understand they are now a Yankee farm team, but they cater to the casual local fans looking for a night out at the ballpark. We should try to capture that. I've been to one game on campus in 35 years because it's a hassle. I'm much more likely to attend games at this new facility.

I wonder if the current field area will be converted to parking for the expanded JMAC, perhaps alleviating some of the cluster*** that occurs every time there is a conference game at 7:00...

Reading the article it sounds like a stop gap. 3-5 year contract to play a split schedule there. Sounds like this is being done to gauge interest from greater community. And possibly used as a home while they build out a true on campus stadium.
Ah that makes more sense.

Yeah, this feels right based on Richie’s article. Nicer stadium relatively close to campus that hopefully supports recruiting at higher levels, while continuing to investigate feasibility of the future of an on-campus facility.

I’d be curious to know what RU’s financial obligations are here.

If you're in Cranford, how is it more of a "hassle" to drive to the Livingston Campus than drive to MCC other than maybe 10 more minutes in the car?

I'm sure I have this completely wrong but does Rutgers AD not have the funds to keep the active stadium on campus?

So they can't afford to pay players and now can't afford to keep the baseball team on campus?

What actually are they spending money on?
Aren't all the fired coaches off the payroll now?

How did you deduct any of this? None of what you question looks to be the case.

Agreed, and college games are April/May while school is in session. Somerset games sell out on nice summer evenings when parents are looking for thing to do with kids.

Spending on the crippling Schiano contract and still on SHI expansion debt

I probably should add.. I don't like this plan. Stupid to go off campus... even for "free". Whatever developers and politicians are behind this.. force them to use something other than the Rutgers name to justify this. Even for free it is a bad deal.
