Since they were offered last night and this morning they are obviously not plan B so I guess you really don't know...... as you stated of course

Our staff has done a pretty good job of evaluating players. God help us for not getting those with "offers"........Jumpin Jesus......

I think stars mean something. Not all 4 and 5 stars pan out, but enough of them made solid contributions for it to be somethingwe pay attention to.However, I do feel there is an agenda for some of these recruits in bigger states with more prominent teams to get higher ratings. Guys like Sean Ferguson andCorey Broomfield, who were both 2 stars, have done some good things for us. Johnthan Banks, Chris Smith, VicBallard, and Michael Carr are some that showed no other D1 scholarships worth mentioning besides our own, and they have great upside, and Ballard and Banks has already made huge plays for us.

This all boils down to one thing. I trust Dan Mullen. Recruiting rankings are important in some ways. But when Dan Mullen puts out the product on the field that he did last year, I don't care who the hell he gets or where the hellwe'reranked. OleMiss and Houston Nutt can jam recruiting trophies down our throat every year till we throw up. But if we beat them on the field every year, I will gladly take my yearly puke while the Egg Bowl trophy stays in Dan's office.

This early in the process, why not trust the staff's evaluation? If we're settling as a Plan B on a guy like this in the spring, that's a slightly different story, but we're not. Even if you buy into the stars, the backbone of MSU's team is 2 and 3 star guys that have some upside. Even if Dan finds a way to swap some of them with 4 or 5 star guys, that statement is still true. Signing a 3* TE with a 6-4 frame in July doesn't seem like a problem.

All of the staff spends tons of hours looking at players, film, and personal visits. Somebody else said that was why LSU and other schools hired these firms to review and gather film on prospect. There are so many that most staffs cannot get to everybody they would like to. Mullen and staff do it old school. I know of a JR they are looking at. The kid has tons of upside potential. One of the assistants has looked at last year's film and watched him in the spring. They have already told him they will have a spot for him. He will run below a number of other school's radar until his senior year if then. He has SEC potential. Based on what I have seen over the years he may rate a 2 or 3. But he is worth somebody taking a chance on. Our staff already knows that and are the first to tell him they have a spot.

If some of these other 17er's could see our staff at work, they would quit bitching about offers and stars so much. But then again, hell, they ain't happy unless they are bitching and moaning........
