He is definitely less of a CEO and a lot more of a ball coach then Franklin. I think the program, and I know obviously, will look a lot different under him. Very much blue collar and less razzle dazzle.
Paterno coached in a different time with more talent in his backyard. Also, I didn’t say they couldn’t be better than the 30’a without Franklin, I said if they got someone who is a good recruiter like Franklin, they’ll get around the top 15 like Franklin did…but there aren’t any really good recruiters left to hire.Perhaps you are not addressing me, per se, but I am one of the people who constantly talked about how good of a recruiter CJF is. That was his biggest aptitude. However, I fully disagree that Penn State cannot be better than the 30s without James Franklin. That is way too pessimistic, in my view. Paterno, when he wasn’t even really recruiting anymore, still averaged better classes than that. For every class he had in the 30’s, he had a class in the top 10. He had plenty in the teens.
But you’re only playing three OOC games in the Big. We’ll see how many 10 win teams the SEC has when they go to nine conference games.Sam with the Big Ten--see Nebraska
And a good on field coaching who’s a terrible recruiter doesn’t get it done either….theres a ton of examples of those.Well one thing we know for sure…a good recruiter with terrible on-field coaching sure doesn’t get it done. Especially not in big games.
I dont disagree with your assessment on JP at all. However, the recruiting landscape has changed a lot. PA barely produces any high end players anymore. Plus, and I may be wrong on this, it seems more teams work harder at building a good football team. And even though Joe wasnt recruiting much, he was still there and kids wanted to play for him.Perhaps you are not addressing me, per se, but I am one of the people who constantly talked about how good of a recruiter CJF is. If we can get him and keep Terry, it could be a winning combination.Youre totally right...you need a master recruiter and a wonderful gameday coach. How many are out there right now? Honestly? How many of them want this job right now? I think Campbell is a homerun if we pull him in....he'll have a huge NIL to compete for players.....we just need someone that can coach and stabilize for now.

Pa has a lot of corn too.good time to compete with big corn. Industry is hurting.
I guess it’s a good thing Campbell isn’t a terrible recruiter. And a good on field coaching who’s a terrible recruiter doesn’t get it done either….theres a ton of examples of those.
Based on what? He has much a less impressive record against much less impressive competition. So how do you claim he is a much better field coach?Well if and I say if we get Campbell he is a much better on field football coach than James.
He's meeting with the Iowa State president tomorrow? The way this has been going, if Campbell is in fact meeting with the president tomorrow, we are out of the running for him too.
We need to hire a GM to do the NIL negotiations and player acquisition responsibilities, etc. The new coach should be a football coach, not a CEO.Many overlooked.
I mean -
Campbell is a much better coach than Franklin and more effective in player development. The question is, can he recruit as well as Franklin in this region? Do we want the next coach to be a CEO or are we going to put a structure in place with a GM and office staff to handle some of those CEO type duties? If he is expected to be a CEO, then maybe he’s not an effective replacement of Franklin. If we’re looking for a real football coach, then Campbell is a worthy replacement of Franklin who may have a higher ceiling.

I like Campbell, but Kraft had one job and screwed it up. If neeli keeps him, there is no accountabilityMuch would be forgiven if Kraft tweets out We Are Better to announce this hire.
Our recruiting will go pretty much as high as our NIL recruiting money goes.If Campbell can’t sustain Penn State in the top-15 for recruiting classes, then it’ll be a wasted experiment bringing him in. I’m not a Terry guy, but at that point I’d rather try the experiment with Terry Smith since he has plenty of experience recruiting the level of players we need. But, Kraft won’t do that because he can’t.
Saying Penn State does not recruit itself, goes too far in its hyperbole, but it is true that Penn State requires a high-level recruiter more so than some of the other big football schools we compete against for players. That is why I don’t care for anyone who cannot recruit at a high level.

Pretty difficult to compare them but this website tries to do it as fairly as possible:Based on what? He has much a less impressive record against much less impressive competition. So how do you claim he is a much better field coach?
I was concerned about Auntie Anne’s but I see that their founder is from Pennsylvania so sadly, that made me feel somewhat confident.Does Crumbl have any corporate offices in Ames?
I like Campbell, but Kraft had one job and screwed it up. If neeli keeps him, there is no accountability
And look at the quality of the OOC games in both conferences--both play bad teams--we play more bad teams. But you’re only playing three OOC games in the Big. We’ll see how many 10 win teams the SEC has when they go to nine conference games.
Look At the wasteland of Iowa State football before he arrived. For years. He does more with less. If you want to try and tell me James was a good recruiter fine. If you want to tell me he is a good program CEO fine. He is not a good gameday coach.Based on what? He has much a less impressive record against much less impressive competition. So how do you claim he is a much better field coach?
I would love to get him too, but I’m not getting my hopes up since Kraft is the one handling it.Youre totally right...you need a master recruiter and a wonderful gameday coach. I never said he was, but I doubt he’s a a good as Franklin….doesn’t matter, because I doubt we’re getting him.I guess it’s a good thing Campbell isn’t a terrible recruiter.
That’s the word on the street. He's meeting with the Iowa State president tomorrow?
And raising tuition!!!!!Plus, keep cranking out the ice cream and textbooks.

Krafts office has too many leaks. Every target was leaked and it gave the other school time to match. The leaks also let Chesney know he was plan b and he moved on.
Big surprise, another topic we will never agree on, so I’m out.And look at the quality of the OOC games in both conferences--both play bad teams--we play more bad teams.
