I notice you have commented on saying Franklin got boat raced half the time against OSU which was more of what I was commenting on.
That’s fine.
Bottom line, you think what Franklin achieved against Ohio State and Michigan was good enough and I don’t. We’re not changing each other’s minds, and that’s ok.
Boat raced, not boat raced, whatever. It wasn’t good enough IMO. We disagree, I’m ok with that.

My take:
- Fitzgerald, no thanks. Was not a consistent winner or B1G contender at NW.
- Al Golden, no thanks. Excellent recruiter and it ends there. Average DC at ND. Failing as DC with Bengals in NFL. Did well at Temple as HC. Stunk at Miami as HC.
- Daboll. No thanks. Supposed QB whisperer but that is 50/50. Does he have any previous college coaching experience?

I'd take Bob Chesney over any of those three if Deboer, Key, or Brohm are a no go.
Daboll coached college ball for one season at Bama in the last 20 years. He had good QB play (Hurts, Tua) but how much was really due to him? 90% of Daboll's accolades came when he was on the staff of some of the best coaches in history, it's hard to say how much of an impact he's had. Since taking over the Giants they have steadily gotten worse each season.

Every argument for Daboll is an argument for Bill O’Brien in my opinion. Not that he’s right or wrong but he’s a more achieved Daboll.

I never said what he accomplished against OSU and Michigan was good enough…I said what he accomplished overall was good enough.

Pat Kraft might get fired before he even hires a coach. This is turning into a mess - how can your top targets be winning coaches at equal to better programs?

James Franklin to Eli Drinkwitz? Might as well start recruiting the next coach now because we’ll be right back to this place in four years.

At this point, you have to go Chesney or Hartline to at least make it seem like you’re hiring off potential.

Woof Kraft.
I don't understand how so many of you keep saying this is a mess? What did you expect, we hire Saban one day after firing Franklin? PSU is not a top 5 job in college football, it's borderline top 10. We were never going to have a line of elite coaches at the door to Kraft's office begging for the job, and there are only 3-4 elite coaches out there to begin with. I don't get the outrage at all, from day one you all should have expected this search to take until December and with all of the other opening should have expected a lot of coaches staying put but leveraging the openings for new contracts. This is going exactly as one would expect.

Sure as soon as the haters stop beating the dead Franklin horse. I am taking a wait and see attitude to the new hire but Kraft put himself on the spot with his comments about why he fired Franklin. I listened to his conference where he went on and on about the qualities the new head coach will have. The only thing he left out was walks on water.
What did you expect him to say? Hey we realize we are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the Big 10 so we want someone that's good enough to beat those teams once every few seasons? Our goal isn't national titles, it's to just be invited to the party! Woo, come to Penn State!

Nobody would give a crap about O'Brien if he didn't coach here before. I don't really care if the next guy has PSU ties. In fact I think I'd prefer that he doesn't. PSU needs fresh perspectives and new blood instead of leaning on their history and continuing to live in the past.

This is spot-on. They were never going to hire a coach in 2 weeks and the next coach could be someone that nobody is even thinking of right now. A lot could happen

There’s less of a reason to care about Daboll. He’s done a lot less.

Actually I'm ok with Terry Smith with a different OC. The guys look like they are giving it all for him.
He could be the fall back. It is evident the players think alot of him. Can he bring in big time portal players and regather the 2026 class?
He'd have to jettison some coaches: Kotelnicki, O'Brien, Trautwein, Barnes, and maybe Knowles. Caveat with Knowles is his scheme needs an infusion of talent to be dominant.
