You work with your strengths...This also tells me Franklin wasn’t selling PSU - he’s selling Franklin.

I never said we are firing a coach every 3-4 years. You are twisting my words to fit your doomsday narrative. I believe you want PSU to fail which is reprehensible. How do we win a NC in 10 years if we’re firing a coach every 3-4?

What I did say is we could get it wrong with the next hire and even the next one after that but still be fine. So to be technical if that happens then we can still get it right on the third hire and by year 9 or 10 win a NC. Of course based off your comment you are hoping we always get it wrong (that is your inherent assumption in your comment) so you can be a bitter old man constantly complaining and telling anyone who would listen (which would be no one) I told you we should have never fired BGJ.
He kind of has to deny it but that doesn't mean Krafty isn't already working a deal with him and his agent.Drink came out and said that the stuff about him interviewing and pursuing other jobs is a lie. If true that's throws another light on the search.
I think the showboating etc are "culture" issues that Terry Smith could address in the off season, no doubt he's aware. Lets see how he finishes up this year. He is a Penn State guy, and I think that's what has been missing, its long since past time we put Penn State people in positions of authority! He could settle the recruiting issues and put us back on a level plane. The answer is hiding in plain sight. No doubt Terry took over at the worst possible time. Losing Allar, then having next 3 games of Iowa, OSU and Indiana. He definitely has the team playing hard.
However, he hasn't made AK and JK knock off their stupidity that keeps losing games. And players are still showboating and getting dumb penalties. That concerns me. Would his attitude towards these issues change if not the interim coach?
It wouldnt be the worst thing for the program. And it would provide some stability till a long term replacement is hired. But you arent likely getting quality coaches knowing its likely a short term gig.
Also, from the FWIW dept Chesney recently interviewed for the second time and Dabol has interviewed. So, maybe this won't end up being just about power 4 coaches after all.He kind of has to deny it but that doesn't mean Krafty isn't already working a deal with him and his agent.
Smith is in my new personal top three based on availability and would be a solid non risk hire imo. They could initially give him a short-term contract and see how it plays out while Kraft continues a passive search should he need to make that change early.I think the showboating etc are "culture" issues that Terry Smith could address in the off season, no doubt he's aware. People think a coaching change is all it takes until you're in that repeat cycle for decades. Maybe PSU is the exception and they get it right with the first guy, but those that thought things were so awful may realize being fanatical is sometimes also being irrational. Fans in general are stupid and persuaded by media hit pieces.....they also suffer from Dunning Kruger where they actually trick themselves into become football geniuses after a game is played or a play is called. We're all guilty of it, but some people have self awareness and some don't just like in any part of life. How do we win a NC in 10 years if we’re firing a coach every 3-4?
While from a recency position that is mostly true but with the right true GM and smart HC it could/can be conveyed that business minded recruits are committing to a university and a payday not a coach as coaching at any level is a volatile occupation, here today gone tomorrow so to speak. In this day and age in college football money controls the conversation.Short term contract is a nice way of saying lame duck. Should be a recruiting boon!
Nonsense. The fact that he only beat OSU once and Michigan 3 times doesn’t mean he was “scared” of them or crying about having to play them. By the way, since you are so smart, outside of Michigan who else has beaten OSU during Franklin’s tenure at Penn State? But oh my bad, Krafty’s new hire will start kicking OSU and Michigan on a regular basis real soon. Penn State has no rival game like all the other Big Ten teams because it hadn’t been a conference member for a hundred years or more.Ohio State and Michigan the teams Franklin was scared of. That is why PSU has no Rival game like all the other Big Ten teams.
Well fans who don’t have Franklin Derangement Syndrome aren’t on board with forfeiting the 2026 season. Multiple Big Ten and National Championships are coming soon. Did you miss the press release and press conference? In fact...I am actually on board to wait until after the playoffs and forfeit 2026, JUST TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT DRINKWITZ
Not much gets by you huh? When it gets done if it gets done and not before.
So explain to me how getting the next two coaching hires wrong makes everything fine.I never said we are firing a coach every 3-4 years. You are twisting my words to fit your doomsday narrative. I believe you want PSU to fail which is reprehensible.

Was it time, sure, but you have to be some sort of special idiot right now to think it will be easy to keep winning 10 a year consistently or PSU wins a MNC in the next 3-4 years.
I don't see PSU winning a Natty anytime soon even if CJF had stayed. It was time for CJF to depart after the abysmal team play from the start of the season to the NW game. The timing of the firing is debatetable. If PSU can't bring in a Deboer, then I want to give Chesney a shot. I think he could get PSU back in the playoffs in year three. There will be a recovery period from what has transpired this year. I also would like Terry Smith to be retained in some capacity working closely with the football team.People think a coaching change is all it takes until you're in that repeat cycle for decades. They'll just be doing their normal hokie ****.I'm always amazed at how many uber-elite football minds we have on this board. It's a wonder they have the time to provide so much commentary and critique on here while still interviewing for all these open FBS jobs.
It's hard to believe that Franklin is going to be paid $9 million to coach football next year while all these uber-elite football minds will be...... well........, they'll just be here endlessly babbling and booring us with their diatribes about how bad the new staff is and how much more they know about football and coaching football than Krafty The Clown's new hire.
I think Daboll would be a big mistake. Basically is a league guy that drank a cup of coffee at Alabama. Still think Glenn Schumann could be the next great coach somewhere. Would much rather have Chesney or Hartline than Daboll.Have no desire for Daboll to be HC. See him bolting for NFL in short order as some NFL team will give him a chance at a position he sees as better than a college HC.
No matter the HC is we as a community have to back him. It what 99 percent will do. Just hope for the best. Maybe we get lucky but I think we’ll be in neutral for a year or two at least.I don't see PSU winning a Natty anytime soon even if CJF had stayed. Not interested in Hartline. Daboll, or Brady.
Not to be a smart azz but if I wanted, people to know I would have told you. I do not watch podcasts and the like except for Tengwall and the Obligatory PC those are the ONLY two I watch. I never carry anything from them to here. I have my own personal sources and have had for years. I don't cow down to any poster on such questions. Want your info to dry up immediately just comply with a request like yours. This is all I will ever say on this subject again. And you know this how?
Agreed on all counts, except my enthusiasm on Hartline has cooled. The only analogy I can think of that applies is Georgia hiring Smart away from Bama/Saban, except that Ryan Day (good as he is) isn't Saban, and Hartline may be smart, but he doesn't yet have the experience Smart has (or had). I agree, Schumann's a better choice if you want to go that route. The more I read about Chesney, I'm intrigued...will he be the next Cignetti?I think Daboll would be a big mistake. Basically is a league guy that drank a cup of coffee at Alabama. Still think Glenn Schumann could be the next great coach somewhere. Would much rather have Chesney or Hartline than Daboll.
Initially, I was intrigued by Drink, but I'm cooling on him as he sounds an awful lot like Franklin as of late. Telling fans it's "wishful thinking" they can keep their best players considering their somewhat limited NIL offering. Talking about how success isn't only reserved for the programs that make the Playoffs. Its all well and good and I don't disparage Franklin for some truly reasonable observations about having to upgrade a lot of things at the school to have a success against the big boys, I kind of just don't want my coach being the one to say it. AD, President, a GM.....all fair. Franklin was more competitive against OSU in '16 and '17 then he was in '23 and '24 and they sure as **** werent spending less. Coaches coach and charity drivers drive charity. I know, the whole spot has inverted to the point where it seems like the primary job of the HC is to fundraise....but it was a slippery slope for Franklin....he finally got everything he wanted so he didn't have fundraising or "alignment" to excuse anymore. If we hire a Drink and his press conferences are filled with the fact that the administration and fans arent giving enough, I'll lose my mind. Also, from the FWIW dept Chesney recently interviewed for the second time and Dabol has interviewed. So, maybe this won't end up being just about power 4 coaches after all.
Where Drink is concerned, I personally would take Chesney over Drink purely for the cultural fit and taking the risk and a shot at one of the best young up and coming coaches out there.
Agree on on counts (except Hartline). I think Chesney, given what he has achieved at every stop he has made, is poised to make the jump and succeed at the next level. It may take a year or so to get familiar with the levers of running a P4 program but I suspect he will be fine. He has won everywhere he has been.I don't see PSU winning a Natty anytime soon even if CJF had stayed. Maybe...but most people do not pursue jobs by crowing about looking around. Any "new job" talk is done on the down low. There's no way that anyone, even (especially) college football coaches would announce that they're looking into other jobs while their teams are on the cusp of the playoffs or even bowl games. Key (GT) said something similar recently. And guys like Elko and even Rhule signing extensions doesn't mean that much unless what their school would have to be paid are incredibly prohibitive. At this point, I would not rule out anyone as a potential candidate.Drink came out and said that the stuff about him interviewing and pursuing other jobs is a lie. If true that's throws another light on the search.
The more I read about Chesney, the more I like him. Seems like a risk worth taking.Agree on on counts (except Hartline). Couldn't agree more. Also, from the FWIW dept Chesney recently interviewed for the second time and Dabol has interviewed. So, maybe this won't end up being just about power 4 coaches after all.

If you actually have “sources” you really shouldn’t be posting anything at all about what you are hearing, even vague stuff. Just saying. Not to be a smart azz but if I wanted, people to know I would have told you. I do not watch podcasts and the like except for Tengwall and the Obligatory PC those are the ONLY two I watch. There will need to be support with patience for the new coach from the fanbase. I may not like the choice but I'll pull for his success. No matter the HC is we as a community have to back him.
