I heard on the 247 podcast that there is no confirmation from Tech insiders about reciprocal interest from Key. I don't think it is him.
The most realistic candidates are Chesney, Drinkwitz and Lea. Perhaps in that order.
And not in a good way...

Living in a Southern college town probably is better for one's mental health than living in some major city cess pool.I guess you have never been to Touscaloosa - makes Star College look cosmopolitan.
If Kraft was close to hiring Urbs and blew the deal, then yeah, I think Kraft will follow Franklin out the door sooner rather than later, unless he can pull a rabbit out of a hat.Wow, Hack goes on record and says "I know for a fact" that Urban was close to a down deal a few weeks back and it fell through.
Also, FWIW, the Deboer stuff seems to have slowed down today. Seems to be more based off of if he loses to coach-less Auburn.
Starting to really feel like Kraft is bumbling through this thing...
Jon Sauber and Audrey Snyder on their podcast - their rankings:
1a - Marcus Freeman
1b - Kalen DeBoer
2 - Brent Key
3 - Bob Chesney
I'm told Chesney is another CEO type, so not sure I want that. I want someone who is a strategist/play caller. Freeman also a CEO type and really, he's not leaving ND. So, DeBoer and Key would be my top two but I'd still be in for Chesney if he's the guy.
The people postulating that simply don't understand the dynamics of coaching at this level. This is only his second year he is being paid exceptionally well, has a class with 9 top 100 players coming in and he still controls his own destiny to the playoffsYes. Misery can be a huge motivator to leave a good job.
State College versus *** of nowhere Alabama - easy choice - no idea what major city cesspool you are talking about.Living in a Southern college town probably is better for one's mental health than living in some major city cess pool.
Not at all. It's more the case of normal folks not really understanding how things work for the top 0.001% of wage earners who are highly ambitious and successful people. Do you really believe that Meyer's wife had much say in him moving from place to place to get to the top? A coach and his wife are a team. He has a role and she has a role and they both get a ton of help to manage family things that other couples can't afford. The women that marry guys like this understand and accept itAhh. The 1950’s and 60’s mentality. Seems about right.
I think Hack is either looking for clicks or just misinformed about what Kraft and Urban were discussing. It's far more likely that Urban was being consulted as to who Kraft may want to focus on. Urban basically said the Yahoo story was completely fabricatedWow, Hack goes on record and says "I know for a fact" that Urban was close to a down deal a few weeks back and it fell through.

I wonder if ND fans lamented hiring Freeman because if Day leaves OSU, Freeman is gone and won’t stay long term?
The gasbags are always in the know. NotThis article was posted 15 minutes ago:

He played LBer very well as a several year starter at Ohio State. He is originally from the Dayton, OH area; was All-American HS LBer at Wayne HS outside Dayton.Does mucous freeman have Tosu ties?
(I haven’t looked in his closet.)
This guy’s knowledge of Dayton, Ohio checks out.He played LBer very well as a several year starter at Ohio State. He is originally from the Dayton, OH area; was All-American HS LBer at Wayne HS outside Dayton.
For some. Obviously for others it's better living in major cities. Otherwise there wouldn't be any major citiesLiving in a Southern college town probably is better for one's mental health than living in some major city cess pool.

We keep talking about why certain coaches wouldn't want the Penn State job, but it's pure speculation because nobody here as ANY idea what each individual coach's motivations are.
The fun was the friends we made along the way73 pages of nothing.
I’m good with Chesney or Drink at this point. Just hire someone so we can all move on to obsessing about something else and we can nuke this thread.![]()

In the spirit of debate, that "article" far from shuts down the KDB to PSU rumors. It's Josh Pate (who likely knows as little as anyone) giving an opinion. It's not fact. I'm not saying KDB is the guy, but we have no clue what is accurate vs. garbage right now. I'd treat it all as garbage for our sanity. This article was posted 15 minutes ago:

Well Mucous Freeman is s’not hereDoes mucous freeman have Tosu ties?

Sure they do….i see it all the time.No one celebrates a big play while the other team is lining up for the next play to drive down the field for the winning score quite like BGJ’s Penn State teams.
Of course. I grew up in Suburban Philadelphia but retired from the USAF here in the Dayton area (Beavercreek). Wright-Patterson AFB (outside of Dayton) was my last duty assignment. This guy’s knowledge of Dayton, Ohio checks out.
I’m assuming you are a big fan of Michael Jack Schmidt
He has not done severe damage…over react much? Both. Franklin plateaued and has done sever damage to the program’s mental and physical toughness. Evidence? Record in big games (historically one of worst in all college football history).
We’ll see. I think you’ll be surprised.Only one coach in NCAA history has done worse in key games. So it is VERY likely to improve.
You mean wrong post of the year. This should be pinned. Post of the year!!!!
Here is the new Ranking:Then we can start the “Next coach” thread.
The reality is PSU fans would not care about this guy if he was born in a different state and coached somewhere other than JMU. There are other G5 candidates out there for this position that are much more qualified than Chesney. Golesh and Sumrall immediately come to mind, but most PSU fans do not even mention them because there’s no emotional connection. This hire needs to be based on logic rather than emotion. There is nothing on Chesney’s résumé that should give anyone reasonable confidence that he will succeed at PSU. His other head coaching experience was at schools at or smaller than the student population size of my own high school. I hope the guy succeeds, but I don’t want him at PSU. Heck, I would take Terry Smith way before I would take Chesney. You are usually not unreasonable, but it appears you have a blind spot for Chesney. "Cream puffs" is very relative to the level of the talent you have and the conferences you play in. Chesney has resurrected and made competitive several colleges. Does this mean that that the "odds" of him being successful are low? That is an incorrect inference. Surely, its not analogous to Cignetti, but it does not need to be. As for "bad look" why is taking a coach from the Group of 5 with an excellent track record worse than taking a mid-tier SEC coach who has a 50/50 record in conference?
