I don’t need to explain myself but I’m a gracious King so I will this one time for the JoeBots. This absolutely was Matt Rhules job to lose. I don’t make the rules, Kraft is his twin brother and they love each other. Rhule typically peaks in his 3rd season with a program, miscalculation. Nebraska sucks, forced Krafts hand. Now it’s time for Plan D, Chesney or Smith.

You dont know which coach will fit which scenario. Chesney could keep the team in middling status for 8 years too. Chesney could also strikeout or he could be great and then leave psu for an SEC job.
Nobody knows which coach will fit which scenario. It's my opinion.
Chesney could be great and leave PSU for an SEC job? Are we really worried about a coach being so good that he leaves? Not seeing this as a big concern.

Anyone who chooses the name KingoftheBigTen is self identifying as an enormous DB. I'm talking the king of DBs.

What would you have him do? He is working hard and trying to land one of the premier coaches in the game. If Freeman says no and gets a raise that’s the breaks of the game. You have to try! You don’t not court a top coach out of fear the other school will give him a raise.
He would go for the ugliest girl at school just to get a yes.

The guy had his entire team stolen from him and two years later with an entire new team he had the best G5 team in the nation. I'm sold... sorry but I am all in with Bobby C
He didn't have his entire team stolen but Cignetti poached the best players and more. Chesney had to regroup and rebuild and he didn't lose. Like you, I'm all in with Chesney knowing the risk.

Glenn Schumann is the DC at Georgia, and would be fine as a candidate from Day 1 if they weren't insistent on hiring sitting HCs.

The coordinators that should be getting consideration, if we went that route, would be the 2 Indiana guys in my opinion. Both are young but extremely experienced, and have been allowed to be the "Head Coach" of their sides of the ball. Mike Shanahan and Bryant Haines.

Interesting to me that, while they're both in their 30s, each has been coaching as long as Terry has in college. Shanahan began as a GA in 2014, Haines even earlier. They are young but not inexperienced, and if you believe there is any real magic in Cig, they have been with him several years each.
Well, does anyone know if any of those three have been contacted/interviewed? They certainly sound like credible candidates.
FWIW. I'm staying on the Chesney train until PSU selects another conductor and my ticket is no longer valid.

Word VERY EARLY is that Shanahan was reached out to and then almost immediately the word from several sources is that Kraft was, in no uncertain terms, wanting a sitting HC or someone not working (IE Urban) in order to not have a lost year on the field.

My 3 I said I wanted ALL THE WAY BACK to the UCLA week when we were doing hypotheticals, when asked for my candidates on this board plus a Wild Card were:

Chesney
Shanahan

Wild Card:

Bill O'Brien

One thing is for certain, there is not one person on this board who has any actual idea about the search for a new coach. It's all BS, rumors, and speculation mixed in with wish list candidates. Its great reading, but not factual.
That's for sure but it's fun to play the game of reading about "potential" candidates, voicing our approval, disapproval and reasons. I can do without the name calling from some posters.

I’m new here but from what I’ve gathered if you want to simply try to discredit something you don’t agree with just tell the person they have no factual way of knowing something and reduce their opinion to pure speculation. Try it.

It is unquestionable that Chesney can build a program and lead an organization; he has done that at multiple stops. The risk is whether he is able to successfully make the transition from the Sun Belt Conference to the B10. If PSU does not take him, UCLA will.

Its called a discussion board for a reason; its not called the newsroom. As for name-calling, dipshits will be dipshits. They are best ignored.

Truly, this seems to be the case. Even on the insider boards. Either this is the best kept secret ever, or crafty is still assessing candidates.

A few people here seem to have solid info and they’ve made it clear from the start that it will be Rhule Elko Hartline Drinkwitz Key Deboer Kiffin Freeman Chesney.

I never wanted Cignetti…never wanted Rhule…was curious about Urban and Lane but didn’t really want them either. These guys are all on the downside of their careers (not saying they’re bad, just we’ve seen everything they can do). That said, I’d really like DeBoer, even though he likely falls in the same category.

I’m most interested in the idea of catching a rising star. Someone who is an X’s & O’s guy who can develop talent (esp QBs) and can manage a game. Just because the current list isn’t the best know stars of the sport doesn’t mean they’re not the best candidates for the job.

That is the risk. I'm still all in on him if there is no mysterious homerun hire.

I know I just posted earlier in the evening that nobody knows, but in all seriousness since then there is again a lot more smoke around Deboer this evening. Not the first time from insiders. This is either going to be him or more likely in my opinion Terry or Chesney. Both Deboer and Chesney are likely heading to the playoffs, so we will see how that works out. I don’t think the other candidates are on the table anymore. In fact, drink may be getting a contract extension or raise this week as the mizzou board has a meeting. Krafty did a great, great job getting the college football coaching world the money they deserve. 🤪 And we wonder why the players want more money.

Right. It’s all just for funsies at this point. It’s make believe until we have a coach.
