Maybe because Rhule doesn’t work for him any more? If they are such great buds, he should have jumped at the job offer several outlets are reporting that Rhule turned down to stay at Nebraska.
Geez, he was never offered. His buddy Kraft got him that extension.

If the Sandusky/Paterno thing taught us anything, it should be not to care one iota about the opinions and narratives coming from the press.
Is that really what you learned from that nightmare. The press and narrative were crippling to the school and it’s effects continue to be felt until this day.

Winning or losing out means absolutely nothing. The future is the key. If people like you could accept that bowl games aren't relevant in 2025 (just a reward for those that want it) we'd be so much better off.

We'll likely announce the next coach on Monday or the Monday after the B10 title game. Hopefully the later.
Probably right--we really can't go much longer or we jeopardize the future--bowl game is meaningless

So winning and losing games means absolutely nothing, but who we hire as a coach is incredibly important. A coach whose job it is to win games.

Roger that!
Not at this point of the season...we can't make the playoffs.
The future is way more important than finishing 500 during a wasted season

Smart would be the analogy if Hartline actually did call all the plays at Ohio State for 5 years and also is a Penn State alum. Then you no question bring him in.
Who cares about him being an alum?
Or the amount of time?
It's about getting a quality coordinator that's ready. Hartline is ready like Smart was.

Yeah so we can kiss away all these remaining high school recruits

At my golf course pro shop this morning… guy tells me he was at gym this morning…. Extremely wealthy PSU alum and donor is there and they begin talking. The Alum tells him the decision has already been made. He didn’t know who, but his source says it will be a surprise. He does not think it is Terry Smith, he thinks it is DeBoer…

That's exactly what Franklin did. Well, "good for him" Hope he likes sludging through that big bad ACC.
Oh yeah I forgot; multiple Big Ten and Nattys are right around the corner. The post I was responding to was about Kraft having a difficult choice but whatever floats your boat.

The rest of this season, or bowl games don't mean nothing just because you declare that they don't. For the vast majority of people in this country, the college football playoff, the national championship, and the whole season in meaningless. Does that make it so?

I care far more about beating Rutgers and winning a bowl game than I care about when PSU hires a new coach. You know who else cares more about these things? The coaches and players on this team.

I personally think it’s Chesney but holding out for an Alabama loss to get DeBoer.

It's not my declaration--it's a reality
the fact you don't comprehend how comical it is that you care about winning a bowl game is honestly hysterical
I promise you not all the players care--some won't even play

FWIW Pate said earlier tonight there is a coaches name affiliated with the search that if he gave people 15 guesses they wouldn’t get it right. Said this guy would definitely turn heads and shock people although he doesn’t think it is a good fit.
I have it on good authority that they are going the Ex-PSU Player route - not Terry or Bobby but the best TE that every played for PSU and the guy who lit it up in the East West Shrine Game a few years ago is coming back to save the Team - you next Head Coach is Hingle McCringleberry.

I find it comical that someone who spends all his free time commenting on a Penn State football message board doesn't care about the outcome of their football games! Or at least claims not to care to try and make a stupid point.

I cared when we lost to Oregon and UCLA and Northwestern. Once we lost to NW winning and losing was secondary to the future. The playoff hopes were gone and all that was left was pride. Simple

FWIW: Whatever may have happened before Oct 17th:

5 days after (VT)HCJF was fired, Matt Rhule's team laid what was possibly the largest egg of the entire football season - in that dog's breakfast in Minneapolis. At that point, I doubt that even Rhule's most ardent devotees woulda' coulda' hired him. It was that bad.
Did that game pull the pin on any Rhule to PSU potential? If there was that potential prior to Oct 17th, it most surely has disintegrated since then.
And since then he has added on a couple more losses - including the embarrassing implosion/beat-down just this past Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
Aside from Nebraska (which is DESPERATE to not look impatient, after what they all have gone through) I can not imagine a single program that would be knocking on Rhule's door right now.
Nebraska's "rebuild" continues to look more like a train wreck.

Who will PSU end up with? For sure, IDK
But I surely know T Smith would be a viable and defendable candidate to address some of the largest concerns currently facing PSU FB. I also feel rather confident that many of the decision makers would very much NOT like to have T Smith as the next coach - for many reasons aside from his abilities as a coach.
Time will tell (unless PSU4U, or Josh Pate, or Arnold Slick from Turtle Crick, or some other insider wants to clue us in early :) )

Pride is meaningless
Their pride is meaningless to my interest in wins and losses. Pride can be found even in defeat. But this goes back to bowl games don't matter...its merely a reward for mediocrity much like a participation trophy. We'd be 3-6 in conference play. We failed to meet every goal for this team this year. Period.

If he doesn’t keep Smith and the Donor Class sinks him because of it, that’s a Donor Class problem not a Pat Kraft or Bob Chesney problem.
What if Terry chooses not to be here but Bob would love to have him?
It is a Pat Kraft problem, and a Chesney problem. He has a stadium to pay for on top of a football team he is hoping gets back to championship caliber fast. That takes donors and a lot of money from them.

Chesney, or whoever the coach is, would be handcuffed in the portal and recruiting. That equals 8-4, not 11-1.
