Agreed. As much shade as Dabo gets thrown at him these days, he did take Clemson to 4 "Gang of Four" CF"P"s, won 2, lost 2. Could do worse.

I'm being told nothing has changed with the plan...so there's nothing new for me to say. It's Hartline or Meyer...likely Hartline. If it's not, the kudos to Kraft (well for keeping it a secret not for the decision)
Easy it’s a discussion board. The info was first put out on another site. I’m not a huge Swinney fan but his career at Clemson has been absolutely brilliant. Look at the year by year record. Granted he is 6-5 this year but to put in the same class as Matt or Terry is ridiculous. He has 2 National Titles.
Only Kraft knows the answer. The tea leaves point to Chesney, unless it is this "mystery" candidate that will come out of left field. It appears that some prominent lettermen are pushing for Smith with support from old Paterno boosters. Who wins the day is unclear. Dollars can leverage things very quickly.

When it comes to Dabo Swinney, you used the operatives words has been. Swinney’s last title was in 2018. Since that time, Clemson has been on a downward slide in a weak ACC conference. In addition, Swinney was very resistant to using the portal until this year. It makes no sense for Kraft to fire Franklin for not embracing the portal more and then hire a coach like Swinney whose better days are behind him. This makes no logical sense.
Swinney would be a really tough sell at Penn State.
Let's all see if Lando is right. We know it is not Meyer. As for Hartline? I don't think so. He may stay with OSU until they are done which is mid Jan and that means he is not the guy. On the other hand, he could bolt once the CFP is announced. The first clue will be if no announcement is made this Sunday or Monday. That would indicate the new coach has a shot at the playoffs and is sticking with the team. The next big milestone will be after the CFP announcement.
Agreed. Dabo's hatred of the portal doesn't make him a strong candidate IMO though some here would love that
In theory, Hartline could pull double duty if Ohio State would let him but if there's no announcement by Tuesday I think it becomes obvious it's Hartline.
If JMU still has a shot at the playoff after this weekend then Chesney is still in the running.
Other scenario which is a long shot imo is that Auburn upsets Bama and Bama is out of the playoff. Then DeBoer could be announced by mid next week.

JMO--but I don't buy the DeBoer losing to Auburn scenario. He's either in or out regardless of the outcome of that game. The SEC title game may delay an announcement but not the playoff so that lines up for Cheaney.
Everything around the search and hire has tightened up to the point of nothing factual being leaked. Of what was leaking it was only supposed lists interviews by some but beyond that not much at all. IMO all leaks have been intentional. As I like to refer to it, Chumming the Waters. Krat relative to the search has been pretty crafty.
We could all be in for a surprise in that none of the people we think will be it. There was a mystery interview and IMO it was either the BYU coach of Lord forbid the CU coach.
What is tricky about the DeBoer move is where does Bama turn to then? Struggling with who the big name is for them. Urban? I think they would want Kiffin and maybe they are planning for that now.
CU coach? Prime? No. Not the BYU coach either. I agree the search is very quietly done but who could be a guy no one has mentioned?
I don’t think KD comes to PSU regardless of circumstances, but I don’t think Bama losing tomorrow is as much of a long shot as most would think. Right now, Auburn is a 5.5 point dog

I've heard at least 25 names as the mystery candidate which makes me think it's all a smokescreen and the original plan is still in place.
Dabo in the NE is like alligators in Maine.
I think they'd go all in for Lanning or Sark--they'd get someone on that Saban coaching tree. Key maybe?
To the best of my knowledge neither of those two were tied to any search or mentioned for PSU until after the mystery interview was mentioned on this board.
