1--another mediocre season next year and he's probably looking for a new job
2--he doesn't like California
3--he doesn't like all the travel involved with being a west coast team in the Big Ten
4--maybe he's a guy that likes to change things up. 5 years at OU--4 years at USC.

Ummm--Brown stayed until the end of the playoff as a backup that didn't play.
Beau was the only player who actually played during the season for any team that transferred before the playoff. That's not debatable.
Hell, even Stone stayed for SMU when he wasn't going to play and portaled after they lost to us.

Smith is about the only one who seems to actually want the job. Maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world if he can still recruit, but he would have to have at least one person on his staff who will command some kind of order here.
Otherwise, they'll play only when they feel like it, which means hard fought close losses in big games and playing down to and losing to teams like UCLA, NW and eventually even Rutgers.

Florida just hired Sumrall and his team has a better chance at making the CFP than JMU. I don’t think it is surprising to see a coach leave a "lesser" team early to take a job at a larger school even if their current school is possibly making the playoffs.
We already have seen both Kiffin and Sumrall announced (not sure if official but they’ll be confirmed soon enough) so being coach at a playoff team doesn’t seem like any sort of barrier to being announced today
Even if they're in the playoff it will be announced after the CCG if they're playing.
