Is that what I said Lando? I gave two records. Your leading question was:

So which records are better, Lando? Which two records did I give?

Cael had 2 national championships before he got here, is the greatest college wrestler of all time and an olympic gold medalist in the sport he coaches. Cael's success is irrelevant to this situation.
It's not irrelevant...it proves your theory wrong
How did Urban leave Utah for Florida with no ties there and survive? Magic?

Serious question. Were there any other schools interested in hiring Stake away from
BYU? How is a coach who spent most of his career coaching in Utah a fit for Penn State. Can he recruit here?
Don't know. Maybe his agent and he were sending the "I am not looking around because this is my ultimate job" vibes. Then he starts hearing that people are willing to pay him $11m and that changes his mind?

What's my theory? That a coach with multiple national championships and a greatest of all time tag can't be successful in a new location?

2 years at Utah and two decades elsewhere around the country. Florida is a transient state. Only about 35% of Florida residents were born in Florida. Ohio is actually the 5th highest state of origin for Florida residents.

Just an fwiw … Cael had zero titles as a coach before coming to PSU

Is Chesney guaranteed to fail at UCLA? JMU is a school not remotely close culturally to UCLA? How could he possibly recruit California kids, he had never coached in that region.

Bar is lower at UCLA so it depends on how you're defining success/failure. Competing for conference titles? I'd say its unlikely he's successful if that's the success metric. Doing better than Deshaun Foster? Possible.

Misspoke, meant two individual national titles, not team titles. Thanks for correcting.
All good. Just for more clarification, he won 4 individual titles. 159-0. 3 Hodge trophies (wrestling’s Heisman trophy)

as a coach in 3 years at Iowa state he led them to 3 B12 titles and a 2nd, 5th and 3rd place finish at NCAAs

And like Sitake he is a devout Mormon who was coaching at his Alma mater

You would have said that about Cignetti. Be honest. The fact is we don't know how Sitake will do or how he will fit in. He was a defensive coach so we will need a really good OC.

To clarify, two of his wrestlers won individual national titles when he was at Iowa State, which is what I was referring to.

Unlike Sitake, he wasn't coaching at the worlds pre-eminent Mormon university.
Unlike Cael, Sitake isn't considered the greatest college football player of all time.

Be honest. Everyone would have said that about Cignetti.

Fact of the matter is most head coaches aren't successful, especially at the standard Franklin, and now Kraft, set as the target. I'd bet on most of the new hires this cycle to fail, including whoever we end up with pending something truly unexpected.

I think Franklin and Kiffin will be relatively successful at their new stops. Everyone else is a crap shoot. People succeed and fail at new jobs all the time and for reasons that are and aren't part of their bio.

But the schedule is so easy, how can anything but 10 wins at a minimum be acceptable? Nothing like inconsistency in an argument.
10 wins isn’t the argument. It’s going beyond what James was capable of. Eventually the new guy will be held to that higher standard. With the resources at PSU, I would expect the schedule to gift us a bunch of easy cupcake wins within a year or two of the new guy being entrenched with his guys.
Franklin won a Big Ten Championship in his third season. Since he got fired for not winning more or a Natty there should be a much shorter leash.
Joe Moorhead and Saquon say hello.
Kraft is the one who said Franklin was fired for not meeting the standard of winning Big and National Championships and that the fans deserve a National Championship. HE’S the one setting the expectations. Get some help for your obvious Franklin Derangement Syndrome.
Ok don trump. Kraft was right, It wasn't going to happen under James. No shame in admitting it and moving on. If the next guy can’t deliver, you go find one who can. I don’t worship at the alter of former PSU football coaches, perhaps you should get that disease checked out.

What National championships did ISU win while he was head coach ?

Sitake can recruit a lot of those tough Tongon and Hawaiian players as well as areas from west coast and mountain states players. If Pat could keep Terry as part of the organization he can recruit Pa. quite well. Next year will be tough either way. Cignetti bringing 30 highly experienced players from JMU iwas a big deal but Indy will get their asses handed to them when they are all gone next year. Indy will struggle to get top talent next year going against B10 recruiters. A flash in the pan 1 year great Indy team will struggle next season. Saban liked Daboll for our coach hard to say how that would work out.

Urban Meyer grew up in Ashtabula, OH (just West of PA border on Lake Erie - played HS football there before playing football at Cincinnati). What are you talking about?

He was the head coach at Utah prior to the Florida job. Before taking the Florida job the most southern place he had ever coached was St Xavier’s HS in Cincinnati

Daboll. The job should have been his as soon as he got canned with the Giants. That is, if he wanted it. Even if Kraft had his man in place, I think Daboll becoming available would have superceded. I think by now we would have known or he would have already been hired if there was mutual interest. I just don't understand why there wouldn't be. Even if he has NFL aspirations, a few years to steady the ship and keep us relevant. He checks so many boxes and is readily available.
I am also surprised his name has not come up more often. Doesn’t he have a kid at Penn State?

Not that it matters, but he turned me off when I watched Hard Knocks w/ the Giants. Particularly how he interacted with Nabors during the pre draft interview process. Came off as very casual, lazy, and egotistical.

PennState may not be at the level of Ohio State but we aren’t far behind. If we have to hope to catch lightening in a bottle with a coach with no ties to the region, recruiting area, program or the conference and with no success at a national program, somebody (Kraft) effed up.

Hiring Sitake is like relying on a Powerball ticket for your retirement.

I’d take him as our OC

NO to Daboll as HC. Giant's debacle + rumor is he is difficult to work for. Would love someone tough and hardnosed, but not a difficult personality.

To stater02's point....interesting thought about Hartline + Kelly or Daboll, that might just work. Young energetic guy teamed with an experienced coordinator.

This doesn’t make any sense as it’s Sexton’s fiduciary duty to get his clients the best deal possible - not turn down offers out of some weird form of spite.

By the way, Zach Seyko is the worst. My god is he insufferable
Agreed. It is ridiculous because Franklin getting fired is one of the best things to happen to Sexton in his career.

I have heard the same about being difficult. Can’t deny the pedigree and resume. I’m not a huge fan but Saban is backing him. So…for a one year deal while he prepares for a return to the pros? I’d be OK with it.

The end of the great Cignetti Indy dynasty could begin as early as this Saturday night.
