I did not graduate from PSU. Only sent my daughter there and supported the school since the 70's. I have not seen such incompetence at the highest levels of a major university in the last 20 years compared to what I have witnessed at PSU. This latest FUBAR essentially allows the AD to be a one man show in conducting a search (there was no "search committee" that I am aware of) and now that he has screwed this up it is evident there was no plan to maintain the recruits and now it is more evident that his plan to conduct this search was also lacking. This is an indictment of the university president, the BOT and anyone else who should be concerned about the most important hire the university ever does.
Eh... we've had BOT members for years that have needed indicting. Nothing new.

If the rules were the same, we would definitely be in a worse position. Even with the sanctions, we got recruits every year. However, the rules are different. The transfer portal and $ (which is being saved on this recruiting class) make it easier to recover and rebuild. However, it is still going to be difficult. IMO, using the transfer portal to build a team is not ideal.
It’s not ideal. But, it gives us a bridge to get through the coaching hire. Losing the recruiting class isn’t the death sentence that it would gave been a couple of years ago.

It is definitely a coach involved in the playoff. Can't be anyone else at this point unless we hear an announcement on Monday or Tuesday (very doubtful). That leaves Chesney and Hartline. It is one of those two. I think it is Chesney. If not then I eat my words.
How are we feeling about the search now? Less optimistic? I wish you were right. I wish it was Chesney and it was announced a few days ago.

I said Franklin would be a thorn in our side recruiting at VT. I was laughed at and told Penn State recruits itself. Well, how’s that working out for us right now?

This one hurts.

I'm still shocked over Cignetti not taking it. Staying at Indiana over coming to Penn State? Ever since that, we're stuck standing around with our mouths open. Lost to freakin' Indiana. That almost makes the game unrecognizable anymore.
I’m surprised he didn’t as well but also thankful. Indiana will go back to obscurity in a year.

Landon Tengwell made a case today in a video prior to the bad news that the next coach has a more difficult job than Bill O’Brien did with roster decimation and lack of recruits. This situation is again putting us in the history books, and there wasn’t even a scandal attached to this one. There’s going to be very few willing candidates to take this job.

I’ve been saying this for days now. This is a big deal. We were led to believe that Kraft fired Franklin so that he could hire a coach that could get PSU over the hump and wing B1G titles and National Championships. Instead, PSU will be rebuilding from the ground up like 2012-2015. Maybe PSU fired the wrong guy? Maybe they should have fired Kraft?

As sure as I was that firing Franklin was the right move, I’m equally sure about firing Kraft. Unmitigated disaster.

Sexton isn't going to keep someone from a potential $10 million job at a top program.
If Sexton really is representing all these coaches, he probably would rather, at this point, throw his weight around and embarrass Kraft for firing his golden boy CJF. Besides, Kraft has to hire somebody, eventually, and no doubt Sexton will be involved with whoever Kraft hires.

To not strike out where would he go from here? IMO there doesn't seem to be any high value targets left.
What “high value” targets were ever available? Outside of Kiffin, has there been any particular high value hiring anywhere?

Probably not. At this point maybe Hartline is a chance worth taking, or throw some money at Chesney. I'm more of the young up and comer kind of guy that

Whoever comes here should be pumped by the fact that they were 7th choice.
Hartline is not coming to Penn State

I told you fools that this situation was mishandled. The biggest dingleberries were too busy accusing me of being a Franklin-lover to see what could happen handling it this way.

This is embarrassing. I wouldn't, in any way shape or form, ever want Sitake ... he didn't make a lick of sense here, and this opportunity *should* have been way above what he has earned (he was in danger of getting canned a few years into his BYU tenure before righting the ship) ... and even he's like "nah, I'll stick with this niche program instead."

I sure as hell hope they can pull a rabbit out of the hat, but right now, this is just potentially program-killing ... well, not killing, but a huge, huge setback. We could end up with very few quality players, now (retaining players) and the near future (recruiting classes) ... except we'll have to pay out of the nose for some mercenaries ... and now we have a stench that no coach wants to be here.

I mean, this is worst than I imagined.

Could this end up rivaling the basketball programs current situation? Or can Krafty work some magic?

I’d be as happy as a puppy with two tails if they named Hartline tomorrow. Now, they put whomever takes the position into a gigantic hole to dig out of, so someone like Hartline may not want this gigantic clusterf^ck as their first head coaching job.
That's the thing. 3 days ago this was a very good job and one that should have had plenty of potential candidates. You just needed to pick the best one and sign them to announce on Sunday.

Now, after putzing around for days unnecessarily, this job has plummeted in value and will be much tougher to sell to a candidate for coach.

There were rumblings of Joe Brady (Bills OC) looking at LSU. Given the dearth of college coaching talent, I think going after an NFL OC ( preferably somebody not tied to Sexton) would be a way to save face.
