Perhaps Hartline wasn’t an option at the start but given the current state of affairs, I wouldn’t put it past Kraft to make him an offer he can’t refuse.

I’m on record saying I wanted Hartline if the Elkos and Deboers of the world were not interested.
At no point did I ever want an emotional hire in Terry. But at this point we just need someone to take it.
Im still perplexed by the lack of interest in Hartline, but over the past few days I’ve heard from both BWI and 247 insiders that Hartline is completely out of contention.
I will say, regardless of who is the next coach, Kraft needs **** canned immediately. Terry gets the HC (for now) and hire an AD in the spring. Let the AD make the decision on Terry after a full calendar year or two. That’s just how I would bandaid this situation.
PSU still has plenty of time to get into the PA State Athletic Conf. (PSAC).

If you fire the last Coach because winning a National Championship is the only perceived acceptable outcome, then I think you are in a position of having to hit a home run.
As soon as PSU moved on from Franklin the recruiting class was going to be messy. PSU could have hired a Coach 3 weeks ago and the class could look no different.
Hell, just start calling every OC and DC from the Top 25 CFP rankings until one of them says yes. If they all say no, well there's others receiving votes. At least in the AP.

I thought I saw that Sexton is pissed because Kraft fired Franklin without going through Sexton first.

Well, I could throw my name in at a discount. My resume is kind of thin…. I played high school football (poorly) and won my family fantasy football league twice.
This is how I feel.
Hire Smith, fire Kraft. Line up the new AD in 2026 and let he/she evaluate the program at that point and make a decision on a big name hire in a year or two. Or who knows, maybe Terry takes off?
Not sure if Kraft is flying out to beg Hartline tomorrow or if a private flight company is making the most inconvenient stop at State College's airport before returning to NetJets' headquarters in Columbus
