We didn't want him

and he'll never make his grades. Oh yeah, and y'all bought him.

That's all.

Yes, I've watched him play and as he was breaking off one long run after the other I wondered who he was committed to. Great pick up. He can flat out fly.

247 only reports offers from us and Alcorn. Seems like we could have got this guy a lot later in the game if need be. This does not bode well for our chances with the other WR targets we have. Another undersized guy with "good speed" that doesn't play WR in high school. I am getting tired of commits like this.

From The CL:

Last spring Tylertown High School head coach Jason Johnson sat down with his top player, quarterback Tyre’oune Holmes, and asked him where he wanted to go.
“I said T-Man, if you could go anywhere you wanted to go, where would you go,” Johnson recalled Thursday. “And he said ‘Coach, I want to go to Mississippi State.”
Holmes had his dream come true Thursday. Photo via 247Sports.

That dream became a reality Thursday when Holmes finally got a long desired scholarship offer from Mississippi State and quickly accepted. It was an exciting moment for Holmes and the Tylertown football program.
“It worked out really well for him,” Johnson said. “Coach Hughes has always had a special place with him and that’s the coach that recruited him. I’m really excited for T-Man. You always want a kid to go to the college he wants to go to.”

Hughes, who is well-known throughout the state, was a big reason why Holmes badly wanted to become a Bulldog. Johnson recalls Hughes coming to Tylertown to watch Holmes run a single 100-meter race on a Saturday afternoon.
It showed to Holmes that Hughes truly wanted him and that a scholarship offer would eventually arrive.

“Coach Hughes is a great selling point,” Johnson said. “He’s not high pressure and he tells you the truth.”
It also didn’t hurt the Bulldogs’ chances that a former Tylertown quarterback is already on the roster. Jameon Lewis, a sophomore wide receiver, had told Holmes that he really likes being at Mississippi State and Johnson thinks that certainly played a role in Holmes’ decision.

Holmes was recruited as an athlete by the Bulldogs, but could easily transition to the wide receiver position like Lewis did once he arrives in Starkville.

“I could see him as a wildcat quarterback or as a slot receiver,” the Tylertown coach said. “His speed is just tremendous in the open field. We’ve clocked him at a 4.29 40-yard time. He’s got world-class speed.”

He should also be able to easily adjust to Mississippi State’s offensive scheme, as it is pretty similar to what Tylertown runs. Holmes attended the Bulldogs’ spring game and came away thinking, “They run a lot of the same stuff we do,” according to Johnson.

Holmes chose the Bulldogs over interest from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Louisiana-Lafayette.

4.29 speed? I can't believe that he hasn't garnered any more attention if that number is close. Plus, he really wants to be here! Welcome aboard!

Yeah, I'm sure he really runs a 4.29. Fastest NFL Combine 40 last year was 4.33

So this dude from Tylertown is already faster than everyone in the NFL. Right.

I don't disagree with you, I doubt his high school uses the timing devices they use at the NFL combine... but still, Welcom aboard!

Damn, that kid can flat out fly. Same position and school as Jameon Lewis. If he is atleast the player Tubby is, it's a good pickup.

Not doubting the kids talent but as a journalist, why would you include this line? He didn't choose the Bulldogs over those schools because none of those schools have offered him.

Neither did Tobias Smith...

...and now we hold our breath every week hoping he's in the starting lineup.

Oh.. and neither did Bernadrick McKinney or Malcolm Johnson.

I'm a believer in player rankings in the overall scheme, but at this point Mullen's staff has earned a pass from me when they beat out Troy and Arkansas State for a kid. We are good at evaluating talent.

I'm guessing that interest would imply that he was getting visits from coaches and the sort. I dunno.

I'm more worried about how accurate their times are compared to other high schools and colleges. If the measurement is at least as accurate as the way state coaches would do it, that's plenty fast.

Rebs didn't offer this guy? might be the only player south of the mason-dixon to not have a Freeze offer.

Breesus, Alcorn and NW State? I think even I had football offers from those schools.

Let me guess...you complained about the following signees(2*, lightly recruited contributors) too, didn't you?

Justin Malone
Preston Smith
Benardick McKinney
Dillon Day
Jamerson Love
Blaine Clausell
Malcolm Johnson
Jameon Lewis
Darius Slay(highschool)
Shane McCardell
Corey Broomfield

Nevermind the young guys that are still awaiting their chance...Nevermind our commit Trent Simpson, who is having a monster year and already on the Alabama all-star roster. Or how about Chris Jones who was a 2* that no one had heard of when we committed him, yet is now a 4* on scout and 24/7 and his bump is coming on Rivals, and is having an absolute monster senior season...

This staff has earned the right to not be much questioned on who they decide to take early commitments from. At this point, it just becomes laughable.

Agree. I'll quit trusting Dan when he starts losing (kinda like when Jackie signed the whole damn DL from Arizona Western CC). Jackie was a superb evaluator of talent until he got too distracted (or whatever his problem was).
