I was REAL close to this situation. We (MSU) were leaning toward hiring Jimbo but he could not, would not interview or discuss while LSU was prepping for a big bowl game. Also his head coach (Saben?) would not allow the discussion. We were leaning toward waiting but continued to interview so as not to have all our eggs in one basket. Fisher got word (rumor, not true) that we were about to hire Croom and to save face he pulled his name. Templeton was asked on TV (Egg Bowl) about Fisher pulling his name and it was totally new news to Templeton. We then went on to Plan B. True story.
