but don't believe Perkins has any connections to State. At one time, his name was mentioned or he was contacted about the HC position, but nothing materialized. He's a Gump if there ever was one.

I see no problem.

It'd be interesting if true. Considering its mentioned by other sites, he may actually be right by calling them unanimous sources.

BTW, the writer of that piece also has written for the Laurel paper in the past (may still) and his brother played for MSU.

With the current rules, you are really only as good as the players in your district. Unless you have contacts with other major college coaches. Jones used to have success due to their coaches relationship with bobby bowden. I remember both daunte cullpepper and randy moss coming to visit jones

No protected players within the juco districts and they can recruit statewide now.

Also, I believe Croom was on his staff in the NFL at Tampa Bay and Bama. Speaking of, I would think this would help Bama more than us. He played and coached there.

That said- yeah- he was an assistant at MSU in 1973. Maybe Felker knows him.

That that said- This is a retread hire for Jones. Perkins is looking for something to do apparently. According to his resume' he has been out of coaching for over ten years.

And teams are going to be limited to 8 out of state scholarship players. I hope that doesn't diminish the talent level in MS JUCO.

if I recall correctly. Perkins has done some volunteer coaching at Presbyterian Christian so he's not been *that* inactive recently. But you are essentially correct.
