Our back up guards are better than what most teams have as their primary guys.

Chandler, JJ and Aberdeen are damn good. Two of them will be in the NBA and the 3rd was a key guard in the national title game last year against the best defense in the country.

Does anyone know who Purdue and Houston have for backup pg's?

I guess I don't know the meaning of epically. If missing at least 2 weeks of practice and both exhibitions is recovering epically fast I hope coach never says a player is doing well. Obviously if you go by the initial conjecture that Lowe could be out until January epically might apply. But after a clear MRI and a pain free description I wasn't really expecting out at least 2 weeks. Hope he's ready to go for the season opener. Will be good experience for Aberdeen and JJ going against Purdue.

It looks like Purdue may use Omer Mayer as their backup point guard. Newcomer, but has played professionally with Maccabi Tel Aviv and is expected to be a strong player (some slot him as a potential starter next to Smith).

I wouldn't rule out Aberdeen for the NBA; he can defend and is very athletic, just needs to improve his shooting marginally.

Especially considering I saw absolutely zero contact to the shoulder. It just looked like he went one way and his shoulder didn’t follow??

I wouldn’t rule Chandler or JJ in the NBA either. Chandler was 0-9 in the scrimmage. JJ hasn’t played a college game. Reading this board they are both lottery picks???

If UK needs JLowe to beat Purdue, and that’s by no means a disrespect to Purdue, and more about UK’s strength at PG, then the E8 is this team’s ceiling.
And I don’t believe that is the case…

Not really because Smith pretty much plays like 36-38 mpg. Probably have a sophomore or junior who comes in for 5 minutes a game for a breather.

Purdue is easily one of, if not the favorite out of the top 3 to win it all. We will most definitely need all hands on deck to beat them in a real game.

Purdue is as phony as they come. They will get all the little 10 love and whistle and beat up other phony little 10 teams then flame out in the tourney like always. Painter has one FF in his career. And took a career year by a giant to get that one.

They will look like the paper tigers they are tomorrow night.

They don’t always flame out, they had a bad loss one year. They constantly make the S16/E8. Painter should have two final 4’s without that biggest luck sequence I have ever seen in the Clemson game to send it to OT and even last year Houston ran the best OOB I watched all year to beat them. He’s won the Big 10 five times, 2 time tourney champ, 7 S16, and five E8 and a national runner up. That’s not overrated territory yearly.

Disappointing. Missed opportunities for the new roster to gel and be ready for a challenging season if Lowe doesn’t play in any exhibitions.

The little 10 hasn’t had a champion in 25 years.

it’s not a big deal to win the little 10.

They aren’t winning in ‘26 either.

I always thought he was an NBA guy, but I've seen Sleepers media say he wasn't and they know much more than me about that subject.

He’s got good size and he definitely has the athleticism, so I'm not sure why they don't see him as a future NBA talent, but they think Chandler is.

Do realize this is just a scrimmage... Nothing and I mean NOTHING you can take away from this scrimmage.. No matter if we win by a half point, blow them out or the other side they win or they blow us out... Just a game to get your legs under you and to mess with different lineups ..

That’s kinda unfair to the team though, isn't it? Purdue is the pre season #1 team and has a veteran roster with 2 potential all Americans and we are missing Lowe and our best front court talent. Also, Oweh might not play all that much, he's still rounding into form after missing a ton of time.

If we were at full strength, I would favor us for sure though.

Right, but in this case, the point is, what would Purdue look like if Braden Smith was out due to injury. Is their backup pg better than the options we have?

Probably not no. I’d say they were hard pressed to get a PG because of him playing so much. They have some other good guards like Mayer, but how good they would be running a team I have no idea.

What nonsense! talking about ceilings based on the results of an exhibition game with two people that will be starting by tourney time missing.

Since Purdue is the preseason favorite to win it all this makes no sense to me. Purdue wouldn't have a chance without their first string point guard and neither would any of the other top contenders. Care to elaborate?

Considering how physical the SEC is, I hope Lowe's slight build isn't an indicator of being jury prone.

Pretty embarrassing to publicly admit the Sleepers guys “know much more than you”. Honestly doubt it, those dudes are truly bottom of the barrel. Aberdeen likely won’t be drafted, but he’s going to be a highly sought after UDFA, has good size for 3&D Wing potential and he’s a winner. He will get some looks, I doubt the Sleepers could even tell you how 2-way contracts work.

Half those guys played college ball, they definitely know what they're talking about. I've seen nothing out of them that says they don't.

They’re a joke, they can’t even figure out quality lighting.

I was very impressed, especially with our depth, last night but I think you are right. It was just an exhibition game in October and I think they will prove to be a better team than we saw last night. A tournament game with them should be a battle but I'm not afraid of them at all and have confidence in our guys but it believe it would be a tough game.

No doubt, we preformed much better than I thought we would. I actually belive we are the better team but they will be top 5 all year IMHO. They will be really good which means we will be even better. It’s gonna be a fun year.
