Luis Pollorena, pitcher from Marion Military Institute in Alabama, will be at Mississippi State next season. He committed to Troy, but did not sign.


Edited to add: Their baseball website lists him at 5-8 and 160lbs. They also show him as a P/OF. Pretty small guy.

MMI had to phase out the high school when it became a public institution a few years ago.

and there might still be ANOTHER signee.
Things are going to be very competitive to get down to 40 this fall is everyone besides the few we know that aren't coming back..do come back.

I've known several guys from there. Several actually went to MSU and the others I have met on Active duty.

They are hard nosed guys. These are definitely the type of hard chargring leaders that Cohen is said to like.

Dominated in juco ( yes i know that doesnt mean much)
But he can be a good mid innings type guy it sounds like and has a good bat and can be throw in the outfield.

No joke...he is a creepy looking M17ER too. Looks more like he should be on a sex offender list as opposed to the 1979 World Series Champion Poster hanging in some bar patronized by steel workers that would be arrested in the State of Arizona.

at this point, there are probably no good HS arms available. And we need arms that can contribute.

I doubt we took him over a HS kid so we bring him in and hlope he can help. If he can't, he'll be gone.

I say maybe because he played at a small school in Texas, which would fit the guy from middle of nowhere criteria, aka the Roy Oswalt rule of JUCO recruiting. He did have an offer from South Carolina, which is not bad.

Probably not because he is 5'8" and he doesn't throw all that hard. That said, he is LH so he doesn't have to be overpowering. Because of the fact that he is LH, I will rate him slightly higher than Victor Diaz. Of course, being LH, it is very unlikely that he will not be a submarine guy- God rest Mike Myers pitching career's soul. Myers is the only LH submarine guy that I can think of, and a lot of baseball people will say that LH guys shouldn't throw down under. He apparently can also play the outfield.

Personally, I'm not expecting a whole lot out of him. Yes, he had good stats, but so did Andy Rice, Trey Johnson, and etc. If he helps us out in the bullpen some, I'll be happy, if he turns out to be great, I'll just enjoy eating crow.


I will say this on his behalf- Fernando Valenzuela was not very tall either. Fernando was listed at 5'11 and 180 (BS) on baseball-reference.com Maybe he's more of the MSU Fernando Valenzuela vs the MSU Kent Tekulve. Pollo-Mania anyone?

in MLB history was Dan Quisenberry. The man won the Rolaids Relief man of the year award five times, and finished second in the Cy Young Award voting twice. He was 6'2" 170.

He also wrote poetry.

As a Cardinals fan, I always wanted them to get Shunsuke Watanabe from Japan. His nick-name is "Mr. Submarine", and he actually starts over there. I saw him pitch in the WBC, and he has a hesitation move in the middle of his windup like most Japanese pitchers, and then he almost hits the ground with his knuckles.

Could have used him last night.

so hopefully he can give us some quality innings...he may be very effective- my best friend from HS and juco was a lefty, 5'8- 170...threw 85 and a wicked slider...ended up a D-II All-American at DSU

Cohen and Co keep recruiting
