New NCAA football rules????

I heard J.T. and Dave talking today about some new NCAA rules for this next season. One was a "No Taunting" rule. If a player taunts the other team while scoring a TD, the penalty is assessed from the point of the infraction before crossing the goal line, thus nullifying the touchdown.

WTF is up with that rule????

Talking smack is part of the game!!! Smoot's head would have exploded if he hadn't been able to talk smack!!!!

It would also open up a new opportunity for the SEC refs to help Bama! Refs could stop ANY touchdown by claiming they heard the guy taunting. How the hell do you review that?

Too many rules! Just let 'em play!!

In other words, a majority of coaches voted against this rule. But we're getting the rule anyway.

Our players aren't comfortable enough with big plays to taunt people on the way to the endzone. They're too busy thinking "**** I gotta break the plane".

but it also wouldn't surprise me if this were true. We have to protect those <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">little pussies</span> student-athletes.

Didn't we get flagged this year for someone diving into the end zone (it was a questionable call as there was a defender pretty close to our player)? I can definitely see this being abused. I assume diving into the end zone would nullify the score and place the ball from where the player dove. Horsesh*t. Especially b/c in that case it's a subjective call on whether the defender is close enough to warrant it.

On the other hand, there's nothing that pisses me off more than any player (our or theirs) taunting as they run in for a score (i.e., turning around and point back at the defenders). Maybe this will cut that stuff out. Reggie Bush singlehandedly pissed off Ulracher enough in the NFCC game 3 years ago to cost the Saints that game by doing this.

I'm guessing they meant "near-unanimous" rather than "near-majority." At least, I hope so.

As a football official, I am not pleased with this new rule. Fortunately, this doesn't affect NFHS. Yet. I can't wait until I call back a touchdown for unsportsmanlike conduct. The heat from coaches and fans will be spectacular. Hell, look at this thread. The conspiracy theories are already starting.

Is high stepping at the 5 taunting the other team or is it considered an "I'm the man" celebration? So if it's the first one, it nulifies the TD whereas the second one would be penalized on the kickoff? How do you decide which one is taunting and which one is reigning glory down upon yourself? Or does it matter? Also, the Florida fumble/TD last year...if this rule had been in effect then we still would not have been given the touchback but was he taunting by the way he was holding the ball out before he crossed the goal line? I ask this because when we get jammed on this next year I want to make sure I recognize it.
