New Northam guidance needs changes

It's time to express your displeasure at the most recent guidance concerning sports and recreation, as well as the fact that no additional thought was given to cheer/band participation in these outdoor events without having to take away from parents being able to see their students play. The mixed messages coming from Richmond are not a good look for the Commonwealth and reflect poor leadership decisions.

If anything, athletic events should be something we can use to bring our communities back to a sense of normalcy faster rather than creating the divide that Governor Northam has now caused. This should also, as he has said all along, be a more local decision as the local leaders have a better understanding of what is going on in their own back yard than someone sitting in an office in Richmond does. That has been his sentiment all along to this point, but now it suddenly changes why? He says, "We need people to be outside" out of one side of his mouth, only to say, "Outdoor entertainment events can have 30% or 1,000 attendees but athletics can only have 30% or 250 attendees, and cheer/band counts as attendees not participants."

Read the story. Click on the link and send the Governor a message that you feel this decision is incorrect. Get the moms involved. If anybody can make this change happen, the moms can. Release the Karen Army!

I totally agree and posted my thoughts on the Lafayette web site. But nothing can change the fact that the Governor and VHSL are basically all ********. That’s why we have the restrictions we have . Wanner Stadium here: 3,000 capacity , fans allowed 250. Even an idiot know this is stupid, but not VHSL, wimps.

The frustration comes from the sense that VHSL lacks the fortitude to provide the kids the leadership they deserve. Parents and the players give their all to keep playing and the school boards - VHSL don't seem to be able to look past their fear.

I blame the leadership because they are in the position to make the tough calls. Busch Gardens and VaBeach developed a plan to increase their capacity. VHSL needs to do the same!!! There ARE models out there which have worked!!!

While I think the VHSL could take further steps, they are not the culprit here. They, along with the New River Health District, worked with Pulaski County to put together a plan that made cheer and band participants and not spectators. Two days later, Governor Northam amended Executive Order #72 to forbid it. After all the talk about letting local school districts do what they thought was best, he overruled the Pulaski County decision that was based on science, as well as being approved by the VHSL leadership and the health district.

And for clarity, band and cheer can still attend and do their thing. But they count against the 250 max.

Until people start standing up and pushing back we'll never see a return to normal. Regardless of vaccines, 99% survival rates, quadruple masks, you name it..

This is all about control. Always was about control.

And we've already seen firsthand depending on what the situation is the governor and the powers that be don't care about wearing masks or social distancing at all..ie "protesting", rioting, and looting... but have and continue to exert draconian control over every other aspect of our life including sports.

Governor Executive Orders have gotten out of control. There should be NONE. The legislature either passes a law or not. If passed a Governor can sign or veto, it’s that simple. Who started all this EO crap?

To show how stupid things have gotten here the JCC cops here 5 hours ago issued a memo on Facebook that states no spectators are allowed at all at the HS football games this weekend-zero AND no one can stand by the fence outside the stadium to watch the game either . Where did that come from. Yes, welcome to the Democratic Republic of Virginia. This gone too far, time to push back, with force. The only thing the JCC cops do here is harass the William & Mary students and enforce the silly speed limits.

More like welcome to the Communist Party of Virginia, the US for that matter at this point. And not the hyperinflated Swedish type, more like the CCP militaristic style. I voiced my concerns about this back in early spring of last year and got attacked and ultimately shut down for it.

Oh well, y'all ready for another summer masked up? That's where we're headed.
Agree, Comrade !!!
