New Ole Miss AD thinks they are a lot like Baylor

In Veazey's Commercial Appeal article this morning, Bjork compared Ole Miss to Baylor. What is funny is that their new AD knows their place in the sports world better than their fans. While Baylor is having some current success, they aren't exactly a historical powerhouse, and their success won't last long.

I mean if you took a poll of Ole Miss fans they would say they were equal to LSU, USC, and Ohio State. I wonder is OleMiss fans will be upset with him for making this comparison?

Schools like Ole Miss (and Mississippi State, which is basically in the exact same boat) don't have the enrollment and the state doesn't have the population for us to easily compete with Alabama, Florida, LSU, etc. That doesn't mean we can't, but we don't have the same advantages.

Just a fact. The MS schools have so many disadvantages it's comical.<div>

Baylor did have recent success from their men's and women's basketball teams, but both are also now on NCAA probation. Ole Miss will have to cheat a lot more than Baylor to achieve Baylor's basketball success.<div>

small Baptist school in a populous state, but now that I think about it, it's probably a decent comparison.

Neither are in locations that are exactly desirable to athletes compared to other schools within driving distance. Both are having to compete with more desirable schools for athletes (the difference being that Baylor has an advantage by being closer to more population, but that's offset a small amount by the fact that a lot of Ole Miss competition for recruits comes from out of state, which I think makes a small difference when schools are trying to poach athletes from Mississippi. It's going to take a combination of luck and good leadership, and maybe cheating above and beyond what other schools are doing, in order to have any kind of multi year success.

10 win football season w/ bowl win and two first round picks to include heisman winner and no. 2 overall pick. Basketball elite 8 appearance losing to eventual nat'l champ. baseball currently no. 2 in the country. That's pretty damn good.

I think Bjork was trying to say we are similarly situated and can achieve some great things too. They may be in a big state, but its not like they have great football recruiting classes. They obviously cheat in basketball but that's not exactly rare.

250 million I'd want that architect fired. That looks retarded. How big is that river? Looks like you have to walk 5 miles to go from campus across that bridge and the walkways have to be high enough to fit the boats under them. That looks like a disaster waiting to happen. When did Waco,Texas become Fort Lauderdale? Baylorstadiumfailku

....I don't remember seeing any water.

To this day, Baylor remains the biggest gameday traffic cluster-17 I've ever seen. I took that interstate exit 2 hrs before game time. 3-4 miles later at the stadium, I arrived at the end of the 1st quarter. It was almost as bad as Jackson, MS hosting an NFL preseason game. And no, I'm not kidding.
