So, should we also have trusted Hank Hughes when he failed to recruit effectively? Also, by suggesting that we should trust the coaching evaluation, you also are assuming that the HCMR is content with the pool of talent that Cav is recruiting. Just because he agrees to offer a player presented by Cav does not mean that he is happy with the limited choices being presented. He may conclude that that is the best option, given our limitations. But he very well may be re-assessing whether Cav is the right fit long term. And are we really going to claim that Alabama's OL recruiting is similar that of NU right now?
Cav doesn't carte blanche run the board. At a minimum we know Riley is involved because Devaney has basically come out and said it, and we know Devaney is a big piece because he's come out and said it.
If for the last four months most of our effort has been against Bleich, Traore, Stratford and Beresford, its because multiple people have signed off on it.
Riley has shown enough inclination to show people the door who have not been getting it done. Letting Cav burn the place down (if that's Riley's assessment of his performance) doesn't have a whole lot of grounding.
I would guess that Riley has a higher opinion of Will Farniok and the others on the board, than fans do on Rivals. That's just a place where folks will have to trust or not.
With regards to Hughes, you'll recall that we struggled to get kids to visit, let alone commit. I'm not sure that Riley places Cav in that rarified air.
My general take is similar to Husker Wed...
