Very exciting for both schools and the communities. Everyone wanted to see this game on the schedule. Funny how it is also a week 1 playoff game this year also. Will easily be one of the most highly attended first round playoff games in 8a.

Not sure why NT would do this. Almost guaranteeing at least 3 losses a year.
One to LA, one to a MSL crossover and one to MS.

Maybe to play good competition and get better. Put kids in a playoff atmosphere. I can think of a lot of reasons.

You qualify with 6 wins!
I think it's a great idea.
As you found out last season-nothing is guaranteed.

NT is a good program trying to become a great program. This is one of the ways to do it. You compete against high end programs in the preseason exposing your strenghts and weaknesses ( see GW this year) and are able to build off of that.

Playing urban prep like gbs and Taft like evanston might get you a win but won’t make you any better. You would think the model of playing good non conference games is the only way to compete later in the year for a conference championship. New Trier looks to be working towards improving not just limping into playoffs with easy wins

Still bitter from losing to them last year is no way to go through life. Enjoy your success and move on.

I counter by saying what good does it do to play weaker opponents?

True it’s a tough start for New Trier but it’s also something that pays off in the playoffs. Teams that play weak stock in the season just to get to 6 wins are usually ones that are watching the playoffs after round 1.

There's an extremely wide range between playing Loyola and Taft. Somewhere in the middle there is Hinsdale Central (for example) which would also provide a test and more probability of a W. Not that I'm opposed to the game at all, just wanted to point out that the only options aren't Loyola level or Taft level.

Not bitter for one second. I just look at my ring and all is well. They had a great year and kudos to their staff on that. But that was a once in a long time team for them. They have ZERO chance at beating LA. ZERO! So again I ask how does that help?

I love the fact that they aren't afraid to play their natural rivals.

Didn't playing a difficult schedule help MS last season?
MS has won titles playing many different teams. Not all have been world beaters.

Exactly!! You don't have to try and beat the best to get better.

For the cake eaters on the north shore - this is a great game, naturally rivalry and a short commute ......to either site..........keeps the wear and tear down on the Bentley's.......!!!!!! Good to see the series renewed and looking forward to the game this Saturday and for the next two years.....

I think most coaches would tell you an early season loss to a traditional power will expose their team's weaknesses allowing them to get their best 11 on the field. NT did schedule York and Warren, schools of similar size.

I think for NT this is more like a guarantee game like when Alabama plays Charleston Southern, the only time they have sold out their stadium was when LA played Bishop Amet at NT's stadium. The Trevs get a nice payday for the game

A lot of bitterness.
And why do you care who they play anyway?
I'm not sure why you think there is bitterness. We have beaten them 16 out of 17 times. I just think it's not a smart move on their part.

"Rings" plural...MS has 6 I believe DOUBLEHARRY. That's a program all schools can look up to.

So now that new trier wants to play a tougher schedule similar to Maine South,Loyola, Stevenson or some other big schools it is bad for them? I’m not sure I get where your coming from. Yes 6 rings congrats yes 16-17 congrats swagger high. We all know Maine South does not like new trier but since they want to make their schedule tougher by playing a local rival to say there is not a benefit, cmon. Would Maine South benefit from playing two bad schools in the first couple weeks.

Bones:

Agreed.

As enthusiastic as I am over a renewal of this rivalry, I tend to believe it should call into question smart scheduling. Should NT decide to engage LA in the regular season, the school should drop one game.

As MS4EVER described, NT playing LA in addition to a MSL opponent and MS is what we often characterize as overscheduling. I applaud NT for entering into the contract and I am ecstatic over meeting them, but if carefully considered, NT may want to drop the MSL team. Over the last decade alone, the MSL's Barrington, Palatine and Fremd have produced some very solid teams. While none achieved a coveted title, they have caused fits for playoff opponents, including Palatine dismissing Brother Rice from the post-season.

Look forward to the series regardless of how long it endures, but NT can't afford too many losses. Taking a beating is one matter, but sooner or later, injuries pile up and a team's effectiveness erodes against brutal opponents.

HARRY:

Outside of 2000 and 2016, I can not recall when NT beat MS. Of course, when NT wins at, well, anything, they take every step to remind others for an eternity. I have an image of a tacky banner hung from a rail viaduct last fall as proof.

I, as you, believe in savoring a victory, but two wins in nearly two decades is nothing to celebrate as NT did last year. I define what NT did as a garish and unnecessary observance.

Fremd beat Rice in the PO's last year too.

Good luck in the playoffs
I like this little running joke between us. It was a weird thing to say on my part a couple weeks ago. It was based on my understanding that LA invests in individual nutrition plans for each player. This may be the norm in HS football now, but I thought it was fairly progressive when I first heard that LA was doing it. Please know that literally 2/3rds of my family grew up and/or currently reside in the Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Oak Lawn, etc. areas and went to MC, BR, SR, Ignatius, etc. I have huge respect for all of those schools and the people in those communities. Just ask McCaravan!

Believe it or not maybe once s year I may post something that may be interpreted the wrong way. That’s not my fault...... but we all done it here.

Maybe my first post was serious on this stuff. The rest were sarcasm. Now it’s a running joke. I like what LA did in week one. Football is only football. The rest is more important. LA could have run up the score on teams during the season and didn’t. And while there may be a few cake eaters at LA there are a lot of city kids there too (Fire, Paramedics, Police, and kids of CPS teachers too!).

The good luck in the playoffs was a serious post. I think it’s their year.

Yea because New Trier is hard-up for some extra cash. They can probably find more money in the student lounge couches than they clear at a football game.

Lol... bitter!
Hell I wished their student section had rushed the field, I really do! That was the win of a lifetime for those boys. They deserved all the spoils of victory last year for sure. Like MWitt, I thought the Banner was STOOPID.

I’m pretty sure that loss fueled a bit of the fire for MS going into the playoffs, but I wouldn’t say bitter.

LA will play anyone.

Did NT schedule this game in the IHSA's anticipation of allowing more teams with fewer wins into the playoffs in the near future?

Possible.
