I can think of one recent major news story where they were wrong.

Was there a retraction?

As for this particular article, bet their correct on this one.

Only one??

A Times reporter once asked a source for comment on an accusation against him. "It's ********!," the source said." "But, sir," replied the reporter, "we can't print '********' in the New York Times." "Why not?,' said the source, "you do it every day!"

They eliminated copy editors in 2018, further making the NYT a weaker source for accurate news.

A partial list in a long list of things they got wrong, and barely corrected or refused to correct. IMO, nothing they print can be trusted. It's a problem with a lot of new sources.

Copy editors do not check sources. They edit for style and grammar (both of which have gotten worse in the Times, as in all newspapers), and they write headlines. Speaking of copy editing, I'm sure you meant "news sources" rather than "new sources."
