doesn't walk the #8 hitter and give up a hit to the #9 hitter. That's what opened the door to a big inning. point is anyone with any baseball sense knows Jones has tremendous potential, but just isn't good and most likely never will be.

I even said last night we are going to have to hit better to keep up with them because with the pitching we had left, they were going to get hits and runs on us.

Whatever point you said I just proved, lets look at the numbers:<div>
</div><div>We played South Carolina, the number 2 team in the country. You freakin' act like we are the New York Yankees and are owed wins against arguably the best team we have faced this year. Regardless what you believe, Jones has gotten a lot better. </div><div>
</div><div>In 2009- Jones had a 9.26 ERA, went 0-4 throughout the season, and gave up 7 homeruns in 23 IP (aslo last on the team with the highest ERA by nearly 1).</div><div>In 2010- Jones had a 8.16 ERA, went 2-4 on the season, 1 save, and gave up 5 homeruns in 28.2 IP (4th from the bottom in total ERA)</div><div>This year- Jones has a 4.84 ERA, 2-5 on the season through and given up 1 homerun in 44 IP.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">
</span></div><div>You act like he is the worst pitcher on the team. Yes, he had a little bit of a rough time today, but who the hell didn't? </div><div>
</div><div>MY POINT WAS that it really didn't matter who we had on the mound today, we were more than likely going to struggle more than we did yesterday. We threw our best talent at them yesterday to secure the win. Any coach with some sense would have done that. I also said last night that we were going to have to hit better to keep up with them because it was going to be (and was) a higher scoring game. Never ONCE did I prove your point that Jones does or doesn't suck, because according to the stats, his numbers have done nothing but improve. As a matter of fact, he did better than a lot of the guys behind him did. He isn't the best we have, but he is certainly not the worst. Quit trying to make yourself look good. </div>

Even ignoring the first 2 years, 2-5 with a 4.84 ERA is not good. In fact, the ERA is only 8th on the team. He says he can't wait to get out of Starkville. Well, thre's plenty of other peoplewho can't wait for him to get out of Starkville.

but to me, he would not qualify as "terrible" simply because he has shown flashes of being really good. Today certainly wasn't one of those days, but I fully expected us to struggle some from the mound, and he certainly wasn't the worst out there. Hitting was going to be the only way we would stay in the game (sorry for beating a dead horse). I feel no sympathy for the guy if he wants out. <div>
</div><div>Pitchers in the "Terrible" category would be guys like Justin Bussey, Trey Johnson, Corey Collins, guys that couldn't pitch to a brick wall if it were 5 feet in front of them. Jones is in the "good but can't get it together because he is a mental case" category. </div><div>
</div><div>*Trey Johnson has done pretty well in left field for us. I mentioned him simply because he was really bad last year pitching. I'm glad Cohen found a place where he can be effective.*</div>

is going to give up on "the switch" turning on for Devin Jones. The truth is, sometimes the switch never gets turned on for some players no matter how talented they are.

I really don't think Jones is mentally tough enough to pitch in the SEC. He has dominated in his last few appearances because there was no pressure. He went in the game Sunday, with plenty of pressure, and promptly blew up. And when Jones blows up, it is usually catastrophic. The faster Cohen puts him out to pasture, the better. This is a sad story, because the guy is obviously talented. I hope he gets drafted again, finds a shrink, and has a successful baseball career. I just don't think it is going to happen here.<span style="font-style: italic;"></span>

I believe now his days are over as for as Msu baseball. Like you said, "pressure" is not on Jones side, no way I see him on the mound unless it's a mop up role.
The next 4 weeks could be the start of a good thing or maybe a meltdown of the Cohen era at Msu, I think six wins is reasonable and enough for us to make both tourney's.
