The problem is you won’t give an inch because you think it is an admission of defeat. Are you sure you aren’t a Brands?
Statistically speaking Tom has been the second best coach behind Cael since 2008. But so what? Most of us aren’t satisfied with that and Tom has not shown the ability to evolve or change to close the gap (we are done with hearing excuses)
The product being put on the mat has been awful all year and nothing has been shown to suggest there is a magic switch to be flipped for March or even the next few years. This has been years in the making with awful recruiting and outdated training and technique.
You like Brands more than you like Iowa and that’s okay but that’s not how most of the fans feel. For some reason people mistakingly think Brands’ style was Gable’s Iowa style but it wasn’t. Gable preached creating scoring opportunities from every position, emphasizing pinning. It’s why we have very different legends like Randy Lewis and Mark Ironside and why they were successful.
IF the team has another bad NCAAs, stick around. IF we get another coach, stick around. It’s nice to have an opposing viewpoint but don’t confuse that with thinking your online persona is a virtue.
Look, if this wasn't the VERY FIRST year he has had a less than GREAT dual meet season, I would have given much more leeway. Hell, last year they took 4th and beat 5 top 10 teams in duals including the 2 teams that finished 2nd and 3rd. Until this season, you could count on 1 hand the teams he has lost to other than PSU for his entire career. Mind you, Parco went out injured at NCAA's with a bracket set for him to make the semis at the very least...
Every regular season has been as good or better as the above, until this one. My main argument is how everyone is acting like this has been the norm for years. The ONLY norm that I have an issue with Brands over is getting guys into NCAA's as healthy as possible. For some reason, and I hate blaming coaches for injuries, Brands is either completely snakebit or is doing something wrong here. However, plenty of guys that have been inside the room have clearly said Brands has consistently changed practices around recently to try to avoid this as much as possible.
Injuries are a major part of the sport, but it seems to be something that decimates Iowa way more than anyone else. Still, if you couple this VERY FIRST bad dual season with a bad March, I have said you guys at least have enough to argue with and I won't stand in the way of that...
