With VV3 not participating in Senior Night, I’m assuming he’s going to try 165 next year?

125 Leo DeLuca, Fr
133 Kale Petersen, Jr
141 Nasir Bailey, Sr
149 Ryder Block, Jr
157 Jordan Williams, Sr
165 Victor Voinovich III, Sr
174 Gabe Arnold, Jr
184 Angelo Ferrari, So
197 Harvey Ludington, Fr
285 Ben Kueter, Jr

How does this lineup hold up next year? I fear it’s going to be worse than this year… any word on potential transfers or anything?

Replacing Drake and Caliendo points are going to be tough. Can Nasir/Kueter get back to healthy? Will Angelo stay loyal or bounce.

All this hinges on if there is any changes in coaching staff. Hard to improve through the portal with the current coaches. If we get anyone its a fringe AA guy that we hope has the floor of 8th place.

133/165 are deep black holes, those are must gets.

VV is way too small for 165.

For years it's been mentioned on here that crap recruiting can't be covered by portal acquisitions. The portal is good for very specific unforseen patches not to hang your hat on. It was only a matter of time until the bad recruiting caught up to the program and here we sit.

Might be even harder to even get portal guys now too after the Endene debacle where it’s been insinuated that they cancelled his deal due to an injury dispute.

Is it the 100% truth? Probably not but it might not matter if only one side is telling the story.

It could get even worse depending on how 141 and 157 shakes out for postseason…

The rosiest of glasses.

DaLuca has wrestled 3 matches this year? He’ll be just inside top 20 to start the year maybe. Not top 6. Somebody said 17 of the top 20 197 pounders return next year. Ludington has beaten one top 20 guy. Lost to multiple outside of 20. He’ll start right around 20.

You have 7 guys ranked top 10 start of next year. It’s more likely to be 3 or 4.

No more pay-to-play, so NIL will be in the 4 figure range. Money has to come from revenue sharing, which someone said was zero? Someone else said was $2M for the team. So the amount to lure a prospect will be smaller. Is my thinking correct here?

Money does not have to come from revenue sharing.

how exactly do you think the elites of college football have 40 million+ rosters?

It does have to go through the so called clearinghouse though.

No he didn't. Michigan and Purdue count only as one appearance because it was the same weekend. You can only use one of these weekends per season to count as one appearance. I know I didn't verbalize this well.

I thought that was for tournaments that take place over two consecutive days.

Going into the weekend it was said that he had 1 "date" left but the weekend would only count as 1 date rather than 2 duals. I have no idea if that is correct or not but I don't think Tom sends him out there today if this would have been the event to burn the shirt.

Punting to PSU? We're going to get our asses kicked by several teams; PSU will be the least of our worries when we're that far away!

Here is a breakdown of how the rules work for redshirt (or "true") freshmen in wrestling:
  • The "5-Date" Rule: True freshmen can compete in up to five varsity events (attached to the university) and still maintain their redshirt status.
  • Weekend Tournaments = 1 Date: A two-day tournament, such as the Southern Scuffle or Midlands, counts as only one date out of the five allowed.
  • Multiple Duals = 1 Date: If the team competes in a double-dual or a weekend dual series (e.g., Friday and Sunday), it usually counts as a single date of competition.
  • First Semester Limitation: Note that redshirt freshmen cannot compete unattached in the first semester, but they can compete attached in up to 5 events.
  • Postseason Exempt: Conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament do not apply to this five-date limit.
This is per AI, not sure of the source.

It does have to go through the so called clearinghouse though.
Because football is a high revenue sport, with players who can command lots of money for endorsements, sponsorships, and merchandise sales through mass market appeal. Football players can have massive social media presence. How much money do the universities make on ticket sales and TV contracts? Wrestling is a niche spot with a tiny audience, which loses money.

My AI tool tells me, “Wrestling accounts for only about 0.4% of total NIL compensation across college sports.“ It says multi time NCAA champions with Olympic credentials may command into the 6 figures. Based on that my assessment of 4 figures is likely low for top guys. But if a school has a $40M football roster, then 0.4% of that for wrestling would be a $160,000 roster.

In the end, none of us really knows and it may take some time to shake out.

A lot of people will be losing their $ h i t next year on this board with this lineup. One thing with the portal, will guys only come for the money? They won't be coming here for a trophy which could prove very elusive to Iowa next year. Its not meant to be a slap, but I think the portal guys coming here would be hired guns (one and done) only. You want to get kids that want to be here, the 2 and 3 year kind.

No way a trophy is coming our way next year. As for those rose-colored glasses that cat had, I had a pair of those on when I married my ex-wife. Seven years later I finally took them off and got divorced the next day. Those glasses are for ****. We'll be lucky to finish in 9th or 10th next year. And for the love of God can we please quit getting portal guys we think we can develop? Currently we can't develop anyone/anything better than any other top 15 program...and that's a problem. Clearly one of many but still a problem.
