125- Leo Deluca. Very good recruit, but also will be going into a stacked weight class coming off an injury that has caused him to miss most of the season. Lilledahl, Ventresca, Robinson, Spratley, Bouzakis, Provo, Volk, and McGowan are all back. Realistic hope is 6-8 finish, maybe top12.
...

Depending on the portal additions I would realistically say AA with Deluca, Bailey, Gabe, Ferrari, and Keuter. Ferrari would be the only title contender though.
I don't believe Deluca has wrestled anyone noteworthy yet and you're right, 125 is stacked next year. He was a great HS wrestler; fingers crossed it carries over into college.

Penn State barring injuries will be better at all but one weight next year. And that weight could be a finalist.

Lilledahl will be returning champ and a junior.
Ono will be a junior, and is pound for pound one of the world’s best.
Blaze moves up and will be better than this year.
Ness back for senior season.
Kasak back and is already improved from last year.
Messenbrink, no need to discuss.
Henkel or Cunningham will replace Haines.
Welshman back and better
Barr back and better
Marsala back, better and no one else very good back at heavyweight.

scoring record for 4th straight year!
AJ will be back at heavyweight, as will Feldman.

Could see Duke go from 157 to 174 like Haines did

He was also at a local club wrestling with some HS kids guess his neck is fine 🤷
I was under the impression he never said he wouldn’t be fine this year; just that he needed a little more time than what Brands wanted. Maybe if you actually give the guys time to heal up like they need instead of trying to force them back to early they can actually wrestle like they’re not a broken toy. 🤷

One guy asks for a month off for lingering neck problems and gets kicked off the team. Another guy gets a month off for a hurt toe or ankle and gets the keys to the castle. Makes sense.

Can we get AJ for HEAVY if B1G Ben goes Football??? Perfect one year fix. OBVIOUSLY not a logical thing to happen, but IOWA has TWOOOO or BETTER START doing some things that put an improved team on the mat!!!

At this point, I am not sure what they(IOWA/BRANDS) have to lose???? Ship is going DOWN!!! It is a 5 alarm FIRE!!!! Whatever you got up your sleeves???? Start using!!!!

What if the Iowa medical staff said he is good to go, but he still wanted another month or a medical year. Who should Tom side with?

Well since this is wrestling forum I assumed that’s what we were talking about.
It is and we are…but there’s so much variance about redshirt rules between NCAA DI sports the only way to know the specific requirements for any sport is to look them up. That’s why I pulled up the rule book.

Wow shocking so he just needed some time to heal and wasn’t quitting on his team?
Personally, I think he wanted to take a medical year and he was cleared medically by the Iowa doctors to go without taking a medical year. That is where the line in the sand was drawn imo. Finances and Harvey probably played a role as well. Neither side is totally to blame.

Still sounds like the truth is somewhere in the middle. IMO at this point it's one of those "Who knows?" scenarios
I agree. I highly doubt the doctors would say “no extra time will help your neck” but they might have cleared him and said he wasn’t going to risk further injury by going now.

Either way it just feels like another situation that was escalated unnecessarily.

At this point it just feels like there are two camps within the fanbase. One that will accept excuses and one that will reject all excuses (even the ones where there is merit). I am of the latter.

If he keeps his **** somewhat together this year I can’t see him not trying once again to wrestle with his brother. I wouldn’t blame Angelo skipping town if he was told no again.

Seems like pretty logical points are made here. You also have Ludington coming off of a red-shirt to consider too. Roster management in real life isn't exactly like playing fantasy.

I could very well see Tom thinking Mo was taking him for a ride, but I have a hard time believing most other coaches don’t get it worked out with Mo wrestling and finishing the season.

Degrading a wrestler during practice is quite a choice given all the injuries this team has. It’s just interesting if the line in the sand was asking for a month off and being denied while Ferrari gets the month off for whatever is bothering him (sprained ankle?)

I can’t believe this forum is taking the side of a kid that only came to the program for money — he wanted more money to continue to wrestle this year. The coaches were not going to let him mess up the future plans of the team and hold them hostage. He is not injured and yes, he essentially bailed on his team. A team that gave him a wonderful opportunity.

That the whole thing was actually about $. Ferrari has been day to day for weeks but is still being held out.
If it was in fact about money, in my opinion that was initiated by Endene. If it was about him wanting to take a medical and come back next year, then my guess it was Brands who drew the line in the sand. Wrestle now or don't bother because the plan all along was for Ludington to be the guy next year. Zero chance Brands simply wanted him off the team when he is on the hot seat and his points in March would have mattered.

Well that just seems like a bunch of speculation but it’s a little hypocritical to build a roster off transfers who are being paid to come but then say they only come for the money…

Well, who’s brilliant idea was it to start bringing in and paying these one year transfers to try and fill holes everywhere in the lineup?!? When has that actually worked out well for Iowa?? Mikey C and Buchanan were obviously successes in the past five years. Otherwise Franek, Mo, Teemer, Parco, and a bunch of other guys were misses in the portal. This isn’t basketball, you can’t just dip into the portal every year, because the best guys aren’t leaving Penn State, Ohio State or Oklahoma State for a payday.

Portal vs High School recruiting- I really dont care how they get on the team. But one thing is certain- pray they learned scrambling before coming because it aint being taught here.

I noticed Yianni D tweeted that out watching Iowa. Regardless if you are pro or anti Brands. The stigma of the program is doing a lot of damage and unfortunately only a coaching change can fix it.

Also Yianni D would be a good hire for somebody. I'd put him on the short list. Likewise every time I hear Mendez talk- that kid will be one heck of a coach in 5-10 years. Assuming Stiebler is locked in to replace Ryan- Mendez is someone to watch down the road.

I have more evidence pointing at Brands having a team full of guys year after year that are constantly injured than I do of Mo being a money chaser even if he did it at Wisconsin and now, so why would it be hard to believe?

In my humble opinion, he (BrianLafevre) is implying that he (Brian) just made a dumbshit statement. He and Jimmy Cinnabon or whatever the f*ck his name is say some pretty dumb sh*t on here...IMO.
Feel free to correct. Why was Mo kicked off the team? Was it for wanting a month off to rest an injury or was it due to pay?

Is the hold up because the medical staff cleared him and he still wanted to wrestle without pain?

Is Ferrari cleared to wrestle? If so why hasn’t he?

do you not see the similarities?

Well here’s my theory…Mo agreed to an NIL deal that was probably pretty good given he had no D1 track record. He has a very good showing to start the season and decides, well I’ve proven myself against some top tier talent and am no longer unproven, I should be worth more now! Program says that’s not how this works and showed him the door.
Then seems pretty convenient for him to find his own doctor that says his neck is bothering him while the team doctors say no he’s good to go, giving him the option to Medshirt if he doesn’t get the $ he thinks he’s owed.

Just my theory on the most likely way it went down

Brother, I'm not going to correct you because I don't know. I'm not in Iowa City, I'm not in the room, and I don't know what goes on with these injuries so I don't think that I've ever said that one is more serious or that guy is faking it or TNT will give that guy a month but that guy a day. I think what you said there was a dumbshit statement loaded with implications. I have no problem saying that IMO it's time for Tom to go, but I would never dream of putting Tom's integrity on the line WRT injuries and other such things. And that's what I think you just did. If you are in the room and you know certain things to be true then I guess shame on me, but in this case I don't think you "know" what is and isn't true. But again, if I'm wrong, my bad.

We are about to lose two guys that are national finalists and another All-American in PK. We aren’t replacing them with anyone, will this be the worst Iowa team of the century next year??? I don’t remember the details of how bad things were with Zalesky at the end.

Funny business like going to Wisconsin, getting paid, then bouncing?

I don't think that's the win you think it is.

When it was announced on this board that MO was coming to town, everyone in unison defended the Wisconsin thing as he set foot and quickly realized that the Madison room was dog manure and also dog manure practice partners. Coming to Iowa City made so much sense given the NCAA 97 Champ was in the room to go with. I have a hard time buying the hypocrisy now.

But lets just say what you say is true. Then isn't it a blemish on Brands that he didn't research properly on what type of kid he was writing a check for?

Again if you say this is true then another reason to move on from Brands. Lack of recruiting and transfer desperation at its finest. That's what I meant as Bob writing checks sometimes enables more bad than good because its bails Brands out of recruiting failures. Its turned from a good thing to really desperation fill in bail outs. And here we are...

How you got me trying to snipe Brands’ integrity is anyone’s guess. I am trying to make sense of the situation because no one on here can say for sure what happened.

What I don’t have a problem saying is that I believe anyone other than Brands finds a way to make the Endene situation work. Brands clearly has a line that he is unwilling to bend which leads to emotional decisions like kicking off a potential all American in the middle of the season.

If Endene is good to go after not competing for a month and working out then why hasn’t the olive branch been extended and he invited back on the team with the promise he wrestles, thus eliminating the fear of taking a medical? Honest question.
