Last night the Giants took a penalty for 12 men on the field with about 18 seconds left. After the play was over the giants were charged with the penalty and had to repeat 2nd down. During the play 9 ticked off the clock. In this particular situation that time is much more valuable than the yards. I thought that 12 men on the field was a dead ball foul, but apparently I was wrong.<div>
</div><div>My question is why would NFL teams not do this on purpose at the end of tight games? With 12 (or more) men on the field you give your team the extra security of not giving up a big play and you are killing clock at the same time while only giving up 5 yards for the penalty. Is my logic off here?</div><div>
