Epicenter was in Mineral, VA, a few miles from my house at Lake Anna at the time. We had some pre “big one” tremors earlier in the year - I think it was Feb timeframe.

Epicenter was about 30 miles from where I worked back then - felt it in the lunch room, immediately moved outside.

Was on 14th floor of that apartment bldg in Bucceleuch Park across from the stadium. Felt it.. heard plaster falling inside the walls. Seemed substantial.. probably the height increased the effect.

I was sitting on my deck while I had a guy working on my chimney. I thought he did something to the chimney at first that made the ground shake.. Very weird feeling.

Felt it in my office. My computer screen sort of vibrated and wiggled back and forth. I didn't know what it was, so I was like, "Whoa, need a screen break now." Then I went out in the hall and saw a bunch of freaked out people. TS Irene hit a few days later flooding the crap out of the area and cutting power. The Earthquake was the easy part of the week.

I was in my office building in Newark and really felt it, could feel the bldg swaying. It did not take long for everyone to hit the stairwells and evacuate.

The taller the building, the more you felt it. On my campus, I was in a three story building so I was like, what was that? But people in the nine story outpatient building were totally spooked.

There were several schools within 20 miles or so of the epicenter which were declared a total loss.

What was the reading on the Richter Scale? The biggest one I've been through was 7.2, with aftershocks for a couple weeks after in the mid 6's. I also slept through one in Japan, but don't know what that registered.

Have to ask.. that a government job at the time?
No not at all. I’m not sure what difference that would make. If you are in a tall bldg and you feel it swaying more than you have ever felt on a nice sunny calm day, you get out of there fast.

Had my first (and only) colonoscopy that day. I just got home and was dozing off on the couch when the room started to shake. I was only half awake and thought my kids were messing with me. I’m just glad I wasn‘t in the middle of the procedure 😬😜

At the epicenter it was registered as a 5.8 earthquake.

I got home from my bachelor party in South Beach the day before, Monday. Back in the office Tuesday and this probably was around 2pm, because I left my office to go take a nap in the park at lunch. Hah, got back to the office and everyone was all rattled and asked if I felt it. They actually evacuated our building. I was like, haha no I was napping in the park!

Was sitting in a conference room in Summit. I thought somebody was kicking the table and then I saw the lights swaying.

Was at the shore. Was laying on my side, and then involuntarily got rolled onto my back when it started. Weirdest feeling ever.

I remember most people were like oh wow an earthquake and went back to doing what they were doing but some people grabbed the whole family and booked it out of there lol.

I was in DC at that moment. The building shook and all that but the worst part was getting out of town. All mass transit was shut down. It was like being in Manhattan if all the trains and tunnels were shut down, and then you remember you are on an island and the only way off of it are bridges and ferries. I had such an early 90s experience in the City (a Noreaster), before 9/11 and Sandy.
