I liked it as well coming from a farming family, but I think it would have been better if it hadn't dragged on so long.

There's nowhere to cut that speech without it sounding stupid.

The significance of the speech was that Paul Harvey did it at the FFA convention in 1978. Dodge started a campaign with several other companies to raise money for FFA. This was part of that campaign and what better way to raise money than a positive Super Bowl commercial.

It's sad that more people don't appreciate those "rednecks" who plow the fields and the like. Most people don't even realize that we wouldn't have nearly the pharmaceutical products we have today without agriculture.

They are indeed an underappreciated group of people.

Indeed. A friend and I were having a conversation tonight about how 90% of America would probably starve if somehow access to local Kroger/Wal-Mart/etc were cut off. I am one of them. I have never farmed a day in my life. It's easy for me to see how little I value true hard work compared to your traditional American (farmer). That commercial was awesome.
