Nice Double Standard

I love it that all my Ole Miss co-workers and friends have such a double standard. When they played Bama they were 3-1 thinking they had a descent chance at playing with, and possibly beating the Tide. Now when it is our turn to take a crack with a 7-0 record, they make fun of us for thinking we can go in and pull an upset. I hope we win this game, they would never hear the end of it.

Mississippi fans could convince themselves that we don't have a shot of beating Tuscaloosa High School. All this winning we've done the last few years is a fluke and was only made possible because Houston D Nutt was such an inept coach. Now that they are "back" and our cream puff schedule is done MSU, in many of their minds, will go back to the cellar where we belong.

The rebels at my office are practically foaming at the mouth right now thinking

that Bama is going to absolutely destroy us. They are literally giddy with excitement about this game. I've heard them talk far more about our game their game against Arkansas.

I suggest you leave Burger King and get some new friends. All the OM fans I talked to thought we had no chance to win.

eh, cut 'em some slack.

Apparently, this State/Bama is the biggest game of the year for them. I honestly think the majority of their fans have no idea that OM is even playing this weekend.

You know it's interesting you bring up that game...

Ole Miss dinked and dunked on Bama a whole lot. They had 16 first downs. And I think they held Bama to their lowest points total all season, mainly by holding the ball on long drives. They got impatient and Wallace threw 2 or 3 picks. But let's think about that for a second. Ole Miss was very much in the game with Bama until they shot themselves in the foot.

Ole Miss, undersized on both lines. Ole Miss, who runs a spread offense. Ole Miss, who only has a few offensive weapons. Ole Miss, who converted some 3rd downs by employing a running QB. Get what I'm saying?

We have more depth and talent across the board than they do. If Russell does not turn the ball over we can very much win this game.

I believe

Speaking of their game against Ark, I would like to mention that this is the annual "I hope they both 17ing lose" game.

not to be picky, but Ole Miss actually had one drive that mattered: 13-75 late in the 1st... the game was already over when they scored their 2nd TD: 16-70 down 3 touchdowns...

other than that; their average "drive" was 4 plays and 6 yards.

Ole Miss was never in that game and was fortunate we failed to convert and resorted to a bunch of short to mid-range FGs.

That being said, I expect much more out of MSU... If yall can convert, yall have a chance.

Exactly my point

Alot of the Rebels don't even care who they are playing. I'm sure they hope they win, but if we got killed by Bama they would be happier than if they won. Then they want to talk about how they don't take the rivalry as serious as we do... Please! That was a good point on how Ole Miss stayed in the game. We can do the same as long as we don't have any stupid turnovers. I also don't see us giving up many big passing plays, so if we play smart we have as good of a shot as any body else at going into Tuscaloosa and beating them. I wonder what the poor Rebels would say then?

the Godfather and Hadad had a good point on this is our show..

why in the hell was Ole Miss at +16 going into their match with Bama and we're currently +24 1/2? what the hell is up with that?

Yeah, but I assume you live in Miss and have to deal with state of Alabama types so that makes sense. For me, its nothing but a bunch of damn pigs around here. Auburn is 3rd on my list.

On a similar note, A&M fans are actually not bad at all.

Vegas is also saying that MSU won't score both a TD and FG on Saturday, and that Bama averages almost a TD and FG every quarter, winning by more than 36 to 12.

Based on Bama's last 3 games:

Bama 33 - Mississippi 10 = 23
Bama 42 - Missouri 10 = 32
Bama 44 - Tenn 13 = 31

So putting us at 24 is saying this game will be like the game against the Bears. That our O and D is basically the same as Mississippi. And that our D is better than both Tenn and Missouri. And... we only beat Tenn by 10 at Starkville compared to Bama beating them by 31 at Knoxville.

also, the Bama/UM line was set way too low... it should have been closer to 24-28... the 33-14 final was not far from being 41-14 (or worse) which would have been more representative.

It seems that 3rd down is not a big deal for us this year, particularly the distance. 3rd & 5, 10, or 18 to go - doesn't matter. Russell will sling it in there for a 1st down. (Don't bother looking at stats - too many games where we let off the gas the 2nd half or 4th Q).

Bama will bring a good pass rush, but I think it won't matter on 3rd and 10 or less.

yeah, but when anything other than joe schmoes are betting, the line usually shifts more than 1/2 a point. that says that nobody worth a **** is taking any bet on our game. confusion? i bet the line shifts a little starting tomorrow.

Yeah, I am thinking the line is at 24 because Vegas knows the Bama fans will take Bama plus any points. The line will move down to get the impartial big money involved.

except when we whooped your *** 3 years in a row 96-98, again in 2000, and 3 years in a row again from 2005-2007. (2005 Bama wins were vacated for some reason)

I think your 17n fan base knows who the 17 we are.

And please get a life - you have posted like 600 posts in the last 5 days. Step outside, get some fresh air. Take another shower. Go pop open your Bear Bryant coke bottle.

It's hard to get people to bet against Bama. The spread is a reflection of their popularity with bettors, not necessarily our talent level. MSU is an unknown quantity so you have to give lots of points to get people to bet on them against such a big name like Bama. Remember, Vegas wants half the money on each side. The line says more about our national profile than it does our ability to win.

My golf group of 14 or so, all Bama fans and all sidewalk fans except one who graduated there, doesn't know the difference in MSU and Ole Miss. And this is in Huntsville. When I first started playing with them, one of them actually asked if I went to Ole Miss ... and he was serious.

I think the sidewalkers have less appreciation for the different universities than the actual graduates. They're football fans, not college fans. Many never graced the doors of any university.
