I read somewherewhere we might be getting back to where he was his freshman year, and the reason he has taken so long to get back to form is because his arm was still toosoreto throw a change up or something like that.Well supposedly he's back with a changeup. I think I might have saw this on the lake, and no I don't have a membership. I've been using a friends for years to keep up with recruiting. Anyway, is there any truthto this or is gene just being a homer?

so there's probably something to it. It may not make as big of a difference as he alludes to, though. That's where his homerism and his need to be the "all-knowing expert" so he can sell subscriptions come in.

ordinary with it- like maybe get some screwball action or something like that. That would be very unusual if this was the case.

I used a split-fingered FB as a change-up personally- and that can be tough on your elbow- but it's not a true change-up. A change-up is supposed to have the same arm action as a FB- but your grip makes the difference. The ball is jammed back in your hand instead of being out in the fingertips- and is thrown with the middle and ring fingers- instead of the index and middle.

Unless he was using some type of funky grip or trying to pronate or supinate it in some type of way- I dont see the change-up hurting him.

baseball is the only sport I played beyond junior high, so I focused on it year round, and I had never heard of anyone not being able to throw a change up because of soreness, especiallywhen they are up there chunking fastballs. That's why I asked. That just doesn't sound right. Not surprised considering the source though.

And his arm angle was changed and the way he was gripping caused soreness after the delivery changed. Its taken this long for him to get comfortable with a new grip which decreased soreness. If he can keep getting better this year and graveman keeps up his solid work, our starters will be as good as I can remember in a long time.

He definitely lost the change up last season, but it was due to command and confidence in the pitch, moreso than actually a physical issue...

For routt to be really effective(like his fr year), he has to have precise command of that pitch, to the extent that he can pitch "backwards" by throwing it behind in the count.

Once his arm was hurt, he lost the ability to throw it effectively and pain free. That was his out pitch his freshman year and right-handed hitters struggled tremendously to hit it because of its downward and away movement. He just started throwing an effective change-up again recently. Jim Ellis talked at length about it during Routt's game against LSU a couple weeks ago.

Of course we have coachlee and his merry band of experts and sources to thank for that.

I said " The ball is jammed back in your hand instead of being out in the fingertips- and is thrown with the middle and ring fingers- instead of the index and middle.

A circle change is called that because the index finger and thumb form a circle when holding the ball, and it's throw with the middle and ring fingers.
