Nick Saban is just horrible with analogies....

I think it was Andy Staples yesterday who said, if you go down that slope, the only true number of plays that guarantee safety is zero.

100% of people who drink water die. WATER KILLS

And to be technically accurate, your chances of cancer are roughly the same from 1 cigarette or 20. Zero percent. Takes longer than one pack...

I generally

like Saban because of the discipline and excellence he demands, on the football field, but he's coming off as a ***** on this issue.

I mean if he were around when the forward pass was invented, you get the idea that he would have been the biggest opponent of it.

Saban needs to hid for a couple months. Sounds like Legend, I-Man, and Harvey are starting to rub off on him.

I think Saban is right.

It's more fun to say he's a whiner because it does look like sour grapes and they've been successful, and also 17 Bama while we're at it. I hate those guys. However, you do expose players to greater risk when they play 16 games worth of plays in a 12 game season.

Also, it's more physically demanding to play defense than it is to play offense. That is a fact. So I'm not sure it's entirely fair that the offense can determine when a defense can substitute. I think the 10 second thing was a good compromise (after all it would have affected less than 1% of the plays for most HNUH teams). If you aren't going to go for that, don't complain when guys get "injured" just so they can come out of the game.

You can't have it both ways. You want to game the system and control the defensive substitutions? That's fine, but don't complain when they game the system to get some fresh bodies in there.

Last, the refs aren't 17ing ready a lot of the time. That's just true.

Secondly, the more he brings it up, the more people are going to want to run hurry up against him. This whole thing is motivates Auburn more and more everyday. Gus is licking his chops right now.

Thanks for the "technically accurate" professional opinion. It's "roughly the same" as mine.**

Anyone who has ever looked at probability knows that there's always a chance that the sun will quit shining. So, everyone go out and smoke cigarettes - just not more than one pack - or thou shalt surely die.**

Maybe Saban is saying that the respective injury levels are not "roughly the same".

I'd like to think this year's system was tailored to TR so he could line up and read the defense. Hopefully we can will some of the Ralph offense next year.

I'll quote from the SportingNews...

"To believe that Saban is the puppeteer behind this awful rules proposal (one more time: it’s not going to pass) means you must also believe that Saban, with every possible advantage already in his possession, would be deliberately deceitful to gain another."

Read the rest of the Saban apologetic here.

This quote really baffles me.

Is there really anyone out there that doesn't believe both of those statements?

Saban doesn't give a flying **** about getting fresh bodies in the game. All that is just ******** to cover the real reason: when teams don't huddle, he can't employ his more complex schemes and can't put the personnel he wants on the field in different situations. He has said this for the last 3 or 4 years, that teams that go fast make it to where he can't get his 3rd down packages on the field, etc.

One studied showed there were more plays per game in 1969...

than this past season. Of course the clock rules were different then.

Saban having such big and fast athletes surely leads to injuries for other teams. No data to prove this but seems logical. New rule to spread the 5star wealth.

Somebody on the radio said tongue-in-cheek "Why not just eliminate the game clock and every team gets fifteen offensive plays per quarter?"

I think the rule is stupid and sour grapes, but I wouldnt care if it passed (as long as there was an exception for 2 minute offense) because I just don't like that type of football. I much rather enjoy watching a QB get up to the line, call out the defense, and call his play that he wants Peyton manning style.

We ran roughly the same amount of plays per game as Auburn and Tx A&M. We were 4th most in the SEC.

http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/80220/who-runs-the-most-plays-in-the-sec

We ran 956 plays this year compared to our opponents running 833 against us.

That's because our defense was much better at forcing 3 and outs this year than they were last year.

We ran the same slow paced offense in 2013 as we did in 2012, but we only ranked 12th in average plays run in 2012 because of the Wilson bend-but-don't-break. A defense that can get off the field means a lot to a ball control offense like ours.
