Stats are fine for a point of reference, but there's this thing called a scoreboard, which then translates to a record...........5-7! Sorry, can't sugarcoat it. Plus, if you have a problem with the QB, how come the "player development" coach and his "QB whisperer coach" weren't able to improve upon his skills? Smiling Mike is who he is......a mediocre .500 coach that has done it by hiding behind he facade of being nice. The bed was made by Eichorst, time to sleep in it.
This is the kind of ignorance that makes the Internet so frustrating.
Reilly had what he had at QB. I am positive that the coaching staff spent time with TA to improve his mechanics and decision making, but they can't go on the field for him. The second option of Fyfe is probably not much of an option, he certainly did not do well on the decision making front against Purdue. You and point to the 4 INTs for TA in Iowa, but they are a much better defense than Purdue, so it's not a fair comparison.
Regardless of what a lot of people seem to think, you cannot just run the ball every play. Sure, there were some outright bad play calls and definitely some headscratchers in the play calling.
We had a lot of youth on the field this year, some bad play calls, injury issues, etc. Every team does, but we also didn't have much depth behind a lot of those positions, no real place to turn to shore up the gaps.
Our first string is reasonably strong talent wise, but we spent a significant amount of time on our second and third string having to step up.
If Reilly and Co. can get a 15% improvement over this year, our schedule next year is setup for a reasonable shot at 10-2 with Oregon and Ohio St. being the expected losses open for upset potential. That gives us a very real shot at the B1G Championship. Improvement in TA alone is enough to take us there with who we have coming back.
