It seems very hard for folks outside of South Jersey to realize the area is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and it roots for the same teams as Philadelphians do. Rutgers (and for that matter, other North and Central Jersey teams) have very little following here; the media barely cover Rutgers, and when it's Rutgers versus a Philly area team, the coverage focuses on the Philly team, not Rutgers.

I saw a few Rutgers flags in Margate last week.

Rutgers alums and fans should wear RU shirts and hats more often when they are at the Shore towns and boardwalks.

I had a Pitt fan approach me and ask if RU will be improved.

That is really upsetting but from my anecdotal evidence, Penn State alums are more well off than RU alum and they are far more prouder of their school even after 40 years of child rape was discovered. That says more about our alumni base than theirs.

Michigan alums are also more well off and more prideful as well.

I see more Michigan shirts in Central Park NYC than I see Rutgers shirts, and I visit Central Park regularly.

My friend told his daughter’s that he would lease them a Mercedes C Class if they went to Rutgers, because in the end, he would make out financially. Instead, one chose Illinois and the other chose Penn State.

This! As a SJ resident, Atlantic county and Cape May county are inundated with Penn state fans and grads especially during the summertime with all the shoobies coming down and a lot of them owning shore homes. Nobody really cares about Rutgers in south Jersey
