I'm probably late to this, but I have a question on the NIL "collectives" and other initiatives. What does the money donated by fans/alumni to these initiatives fund? Is it just the administration of NIL deals? In other words, you could have the most well-funded, organized NIL initiative, but at the end of the day, you still need actual businesses to pay for the athlete's NIL, correct? Or am I wrong, and money donated to these initiatives by fans/alumni is being funneled to athletes, with or without a real business being involved?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I haven't been following this very closely.

I'm pretty sure BI money goes to the bidnesses basically giving said bidnesses free advertising and the bidness pays the athlete from that same source of funds. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. I would like to know myself if all that ESPN $ we get can be used for NIL. I'm assuming not.

None of the BI money goes to businesses or to advertise them. The Bulldog Initiative money collects money, and then it uses that money to do its own deals directly with athletes. Those athletes then are, in turn, required to promote the BI or to perform other services on its behalf (e.g., promoting Starkville, MSU, appearing at autograph events, etc.)

If businesses give money, we use those funds to help use athletes to promote their business, but only to the extent of their contribution (or, more often, lower).

Unfortunately, no TV is allowed to be used by rule.

Thank you for the response.

That makes sense. So individual contributions fund the initiative’s use of an athlete’s NIL. But businesses can also use the initiative if they have a specific marketing need.

That was the big hang up for me. I was wondering if all of this was a moot point if businesses didn’t step up. I also wouldn’t like it if contributions simply provided free marketing funds for businesses.
